Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | June 9, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets are done. The Moose are done. We will still try to get you anything relevant to the pro hockey clubs of Manitoba during the next little bit. Of course the big focus is on the 2026 NHL Draft for which the Jets hold the 8th overall selection. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the players who could hear their name get called by Winnipeg at the end of June. You can also check out our chat with Craig Button as it pertains to the pick here. We will be at the Jets Draft Party on Friday, June 26th doing a live first round broadcast so be sure you’re following along on our YouTube channel.

Note II: The NHL Draft Combine took place in Buffalo this past weekend. It gave folks a chance to get to hear from some of the top picks expected to be selected later this month. Yesterday, we posted three interviews with players who could hear their name picked by the Jets with the 8th overall pick including: Daxon Rudolph (watch here), Keaton Verhoeff (watch here) and Tynan Lawrence (watch here). We will have another round of interviews to watch today.

Note III: Former Moose pro scout Spiros Anastas is headed to his first Calder Cup Final as a head coach. He took over the Chicago Wolves bench in December and has guided them to the Western Conference championship. They’ll now face the Toronto Marlies for the Calder Cup.

Jets news:

The Athletic: Nikolaj Ehlers ripple effects, analytics usage and getting physical: Jets mailbag, Part 2. (Paywall). You had so many questions it necessitated a part two of Murat’s latest mailbag. In addition to these topics in the headline he answers questions about physical deficit and optimal trading partners for Winnipeg.

Global News: Surprise — Winnipeg Jets not part of early entry list for Dylan Larkin derby. In this instance folks in Manitoba shouldn’t feel slighted since Larkin’s list only included three teams (although they won’t like that Minnesota was reportedly on his list). As I wrote yesterday in response to the Athletic article the likelihood of him ending up in the ‘Peg was nonexistent.
