Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | June 4, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets are done. The Moose are done. We will still try to get you anything relevant to the pro hockey clubs of Manitoba during the next little bit. Of course the big focus is on the 2026 NHL Draft for which the Jets hold the 8th overall selection. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the players who could hear their name get called by Winnipeg at the end of June. You can also check out our chat with Craig Button as it pertains to the pick here. We will be at the Jets Draft Party on Friday, June 26th doing a live first round broadcast so be sure you’re following along on our YouTube channel.

Note II: On Monday, TSN’s Darren Dreger indicated that Jonathan Toews appears headed for retirement. Not terribly surprising given some of the scenes during end-of-season media availability, which certainly hinted that retirement was on the table.

Jets news:

Global News: Stanley Cup final has multiple Manitoba and Winnipeg storylines. It seems in our unofficial polling that between the Manitobans and former Jets on both teams, folks in these parts are throwing their support behind the Hurricanes. Suspect that’s an equal part Ehlers/Jarvis/Martinook love and Jets/Golden Knights antipathy.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets mock draft analysis: Who will be available at No. 8 and who they should take. (Paywall). An interesting breakdown by Murat. Shows you the six players expected to be off the board by the time Winnipeg makes their selection with two picks to go and a number of great options. He’s leaning towards either of the defenceman that they project might still be there in right-shooting Daxon Rudolph and left-shooting Alberts Šmits. My informal assessment is that a lot of Jets fans want either Rudolph or Viggo Björck.

2026 NHL Draft:

The Athletic: Gavin McKenna leads Scott Wheeler’s final top 100 list. Scott gives you a lot of info in his final list ahead of the Draft at the end of the month.
