Note: The Jets are done. The Moose are done. The Stanley Cup Playoffs are now done. The big focus is on the 2026 NHL Draft for which the Jets hold the 8th overall selection coming up soon. We will be spending quite a bit of time learning about the players who could hear their name get called by Winnipeg. You can also check out our chat with Craig Button as it pertains to the pick here and with Shane Malloy here. We will be at the Jets Draft Party on Friday, June 26th doing a live first round broadcast so be sure you’re following along on our YouTube channel.
Note II: One chapter that officially came to a close on Friday was the NHL career of Jonathan Toews, who announced his retirement after 16 seasons in the league. He spoke following the formal portion of the announcement about his decision (watch here), and we also heard from captain Adam Lowry (watch here) and head coach Scott Arniel (watch here).
Note III: On the upcoming Illegal Curve Hockey Show, we’ll continue our discussion from last week on Connor Hellebuyck and the latest wave of conversation surrounding the Jets goaltender. We’ll also reflect on the news of Jonathan Toews’ retirement, discuss Darren Dreger’s comments about Kevin Cheveldayoff being in the early stages of an extension, look ahead to the NHL Draft (now less than a week away), and cover anything else relevant to the Winnipeg Jets. Join us at 9 AM CT on our YouTube channel here.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Toews grateful to retire with hometown Jets. (Paywall). Seeing him hugging his parents along with all the friends and family he had in the crowd at the arena that is named after him, it was pretty evident how significant it was for both him as a player and for the community.

Winnipeg Sun: Toews acknowledges he was ‘huge risk’ for Jets. When they held their introductory presser one year ago today I recall hearing them say something like “we haven’t yet seen him on the ice” and I thought “dear mama that is quite a risk”.
Winnipeg Sun: To Chicago and back, Winnipeg’s Toews did it all. It was very clear watching him play in Chicago how much it meant for him to get that opportunity to say goodbye to the city that he devoted so much of his adult life to.
The Athletic: Reflecting on the career of Jonathan Toews after 16 seasons in the NHL. (Paywall). Murat and Mark teamed up for this retrospective.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Why Jets should (and should not) trade franchise goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. (Paywall). He makes the case for an against what would potentially be the biggest move in this franchise’s history.
Global News: A tale of two classy NHL captains, Toews and Staal. One from Winnipeg, the other from Thunder Bay have both led their teams to glory.
