Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | August 4, 2026

A daily roundup of Jets, Moose coverage — all the pro hockey news that matters in Manitoba and beyond.

Note: The Jets are down to just one RFA, as defenceman Tyrel Bauer has yet to sign a new contract. It’ll be interesting to see whether they consider a Johnny Kovacevic-type deal, one with a bit more term in the hope of discouraging a waiver claim.

Note II: “He has a great shot. Offensively he’s really, really good.” Swedish coach Magnus Havelid speaking about Jets prospect Viktor Klingsell (2025 5th) after the Summer Showcase.

Note III: Gimli’s own Adam Vigfusson, a Centennial Cup champion, drew cheers while taking part in the Icelandic Festival parade in Manitoba’s Interlake.

Jets news:

NHL.com: What if they weren’t the Jets? While I understand the reason the organization wanted to be able to apply their own brand to the new franchise there was little doubt what the people of this province wanted. While I think Jets was the right call, I will say that it’s a shame the Manitoba Moose and Assiniboine Zoo no longer do a jersey game anymore as the Polar Bear one was always a great jersey design.

The Athletic: Why these 7 NHL teams are in danger of getting stuck in the mushy middle. (Paywall). He’s got the Jets there if they end up dealing Hellebuyck.
