Note: To think yesterday began as a typical late-August day during the dog days of summer. That changed in the afternoon when Connor Hellebuyck’s camp blew up the NHL news cycle, announcing through his agent that the top netminder wanted out of Winnipeg which the team did acknowledge. As you might expect, the news generated plenty of reaction, including from Drew and me, as we recorded a 20-minute IC Rapid Reaction show that you can watch here.
Note II: On a much less dramatic goaltending front, we learned yesterday that Altona’s Cole Kehler will serve as the Winnipeg Jets’ Emergency Backup Goalie for the upcoming season. Kehler, who played three games for the Manitoba Moose in 2021, will travel with the team as part of the NHL’s new EBUG requirements.
