Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers: Today’s Hockey Headlines | Apr 23, 2026

Note: Two days of Jets exit media availabilities concluded this week. Last Friday we heard from eight players including Cole Perfetti | Jonathan Toews | Gabriel Vilardi | Josh Morrissey | Adam Lowry | Mark Scheifele | Kyle Connor | Connor Hellebuyck. And then on Monday we heard from both head coach Scott Arniel and GM Kevin Cheveldayoff. We still have to review the tape to glean any interesting tidbits which we will put out this week.

Note II: The AHL club of Manitoba got a boost ahead of Game 1 as the Jets loaned Elias Salomonsson to them but he was in yellow, non-contact at AM skate. He will have to get through a contact practice to determine if he is an option for Game 2 on Friday night. Of course, there was a game in downtown Winnipeg last night with the Moose dropping the first game of their three-game series with the Admirals by a final score of 4-1 despite outshooting their opponent 42-24. The team will hold a practice today so check back for the Practice Report.

Winnipeg Sun: Moose run into Milwaukee wall in dropping playoff opener. Paul gives his assessment from last night’s game.

Winnipeg Sun: Whirlwind week brings Jets defence prospect to Manitoba. Paul wrote about prospect Garrett Brown.

Winnipeg Free Press: Moose forced into must-win mode. (Paywall). Not ideal but the good news for the home team is neither team has been able to sweep a two game set from the other of late.

Winnipeg Free Press: Salomonsson hopes to be in Manitoba Moose lineup for Game 2 against Milwaukee. (Paywall). And given the impact he could have on the series, the team is likely hoping for the same.

Global News: Jets evaluate Scott Arniel’s fate as head coach. Paul is right. Given the opportunity to say something to show his coach had his support, the GM definitely pivoted away from that talk.
