Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: NHL singing new loonie tune. While it might not be enough to send Canadian franchises south of the border it will still have an impact on a team’s bottom line.
Winnipeg Free Press: The Kladno kids: Frolik and Pavelec. Something special about two kids who grew up together getting the chance to represent their county together on a stage as big as the Olympics.
Winnipeg Free Press: Olys chance for Jets, coach to talk contract. Considering the start he has had with the franchise you suspect that Paul Maurice has earned himself quite a nice little contract from this organization. Advantage Maurice.
Winnipeg Sun: Thorburn making the most of his opportunities. He isn’t the type of player who doesn’t know his role on this team. He is certainly under no illusions that he is a 2nd line winger but he is doing what is asked of him and clearly two NHL coaches believed that he is capable of handling this position.
Winnipeg Sun: Jet keeping it close and winning. Sticking to the system and not being chameleons has really helped. On a nightly basis you weren’t sure what team you would see as this team changed its brand of hockey to match their opponent. Coach Maurice has made small, focused changes but clearly they are making a big impact.
Winnipeg Sun: Jetstream Blog. Ken with his final thoughts on the Hurricanes win and some initial chatter about the Jets in Washington.
NHL.com: Unlikely Olympic opportunity fuels Jokinen’s revival. While he is nearing the end of a long career he will have one more opportunity to suit up for his country.
CBC: 30 Thoughts. Points 8, 9 and 10 cover the Jets as follows; using the Olympic break to sign Maurice, the new structure he put in place and the problems caused by Big Buff.
Capitals news:
Washington Post: Penalties are costing Capitals. While coach Maurice hasn’t had the chance to work on the Jets PP yet he probably wouldn’t be adverse to getting some of these types of opportunities tonight against Washington.
CSN Washington: Does Ovi feel pressure? He has been hot of late (Three goals and four assists in his last five games) and getting ready for the Olympics is only heating him up.
IceCaps news:
The Telegram: IceCaps beat P-Bruins in shootout. St. John’s continue their winning ways and while it wasn’t a pretty win they will take the two points. Paul Postma who is on injury rehab with the IceCaps had a goal and assist and rookie Adam Lowry scored his sixth goal in seven games.
NHL Mid-Week:

Interview with Jay Pandolfo, former New Jersey Devil. Six Things We Learned This Week. Comparing the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks. Interview with Jim Jameison of the Vancouver Province.
