Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Keeping you up-to-date with all the latest pro hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets were off on Wednesday after they picked up a 4-3 OT win in Nashville on Tuesday night which was their fourth straight victory. Of course tonight is a tougher test when they face off against the Western Conference leading Stars. Morning skate for the Jets gets underway at 11:30 AM CDT. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 7 PM CDT.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Dallas, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose have a second straight day of practice as they prepare to close out the home portion of the regular season against the Wild in Winnipeg on Saturday and Sunday. Yesterday’s focus was on recently assigned Colby Barlow who skated for the first time at the practice with the Moose on Wednesday. Today’s practice is scheduled for 10:30 AM CDT.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: High-flying Jets still not on opponents’ radar. The Jets are like the Rodney Dangerfield of the NHL…’they don’t get no respect’. Paul delves into the NHLPA survey that was releases on Tuesday. While the team doesn’t get much notice the arena in Winnipeg was rated third best ice in the NHL.

Winnipeg Sun: Whiteout looms as Jets announce return of popular street party. I understand why they need a bit of order when it comes to folks coming downtown but it does tend to crush the organic-ness of the event and while folks are clearly having a blast, doesn’t seem to be able to replicate what took place back in 2017-18.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ Stanley earning consistent work with fresh perspective. Maturity on and off the ice for the 2016 1st rounder of the Jets.

Winnipeg Free Press: Inconsistency in OT win over the Predators a sign the Jets still looking for chemistry. (Paywall). Probably not a good sign that tonight will be game 79 on the calendar and there is still talk about finding chemistry.

Global News: Another stellar performance pushes Jets’ Hellebuyck closer to Vezina trophy. Can’t not see him winning his second Vezina of his career after the season he has had although he’d be the first to say that his eyes are on a far greater prize.

Jets prospect news:

Winnipeg Free Press: National title McGroarty’s focus. (Paywall). Mike took a ride down the I-94 to St. Paul, Minnesota to watch Jets 2022 1st rounder Rutger McGroarty and his Michigan Wolverines do battle for a National Championship.

Winnipeg Free Press: Colby Barlow takes next steps. As mentioned in note III it was a big day for Jets 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow who excitedly joined his new Moose teammates in his first ever practice in the AHL.
