Manitoba Moose Practice Report (first skate with Winnipeg Jets prospect Colby Barlow)

After two days off the ice the Moose resumed practice which included a new but familiar face.

The Moose have continued to solidify their hold on a playoff spot securing four of four points in their weekend series with the Wolves who were chasing them although because Chicago lost both games in extra time they did manage to secure two points as well. They had two days off to rest and recover before resuming practice today as they prepare for the other team that’s chasing them in the standings with the upcoming two-game set against the Wild which closes out the home portion of the regular season.

There was a new face but a familiar one at today’s practice as we saw 2023 1st rounder Colby Barlow join the AHL club of Manitoba for the first time since being assigned on Sunday by the Jets.

Standings Watch:

The Moose still have their eyes on the prize of the 4th spot in the Central as they sit five points back of the Stars with one game in hand. Fittingly they conclude the season with two games in Texas which could be a chance for either team to secure home ice advantage for the best of three play and you’re in series. Head coach Mark Morrison was asked about this after practice and said “we want to look in front of us all the time and not behind us so we’ve kinda had that as a goal through here is to try to catch them and we’ll continue to do that.”

4. Stars 70 points (4 games remaining)
5. Moose 65 points (5 games remaining)
6. Wolves 56 points (6 games remaining)
7. Wild 55 points (5 games remaining).

Health news:
Couple of forwards were missing today at practice including Jeff Malott and Nicholas Jones. As well defenceman Tyrel Bauer took a puck directly to the face and was down on the ice for a few moments before leaving it for the room. As per head coach Mark Morrison the pair of forwards are both day-to-day who “should be fine soon”. He did say Malott should be an option for this weekend.

Up next:
Another day of practice coming tomorrow for the Moose as they continue to wrap up the home portion of the regular season which they will do this weekend against the Wild.
