Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The Jets hit the ice on Friday for practice with the same configuration as they had used in the game against the Kings. We learned that Dominic Toninato, had cleared waivers, but was not yet assigned to Manitoba of the AHL and that Rasmus Kupari/Ville Heinola remain “a ways away“. With it being a gameday all eyes will be on morning skate which gets underway at 9:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Colorado, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game.

Note III: The Moose had a less than stellar outcome in their first game of the season against the Admirals as a slew of penalties in the 1st, even though they only gave up the one goal, really derailed any momentum. They were playing catch-up thereafter but Milwaukee pulled away for the 5-1 victory. They are scheduled to practice this morning at hockey for all centre as they get set for a re-match tomorrow afternoon. Reminder it’s the Teddy Bear Toss game so bring a stuffed animal to toss onto the ice to help out the Christmas Cheer Board.

Note IV: Come join us this morning for a live broadcast at the Farmery Retail location at 2 Donald Street where we will be from 9 AM to 11 AM CST doing the Illegal Curve Hockey Show. Come down to say hello. Obviously if you cannot join us live then join us on our YouTube channel here. Guests: Ross Levitan of CJOB 680 and Meghan Angley who covers the Avs for DNVR Sports.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: ‘Solutions, not excuses’: Jets’ mantra bearing plenty of fruit. It’s one thing to preach a mantra but it’s another to show you can walk the walk.

Winnipeg Sun: Bowness compares Jets’ goalie Connor Hellebuyck to NHL greats. Given what Jets fans have seen from him since he became a full-time starter it’s not hard to see why he is receiving such praise.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets’ perennial Vezina candidate makes outstanding saves look routine. (Paywall). This may be the most elite we’ve seen the Jets all-world goalie as he puts up quality start after quality start after quality start.

Winnipeg Free Press: Internal drama grabbing headlines from Jets nearest rivals. (Paywall). Who needs to watch Soap Operas when you have the Central Division to keep you locked in.

Global News: The Jets remain comfortable as other teams vie for playoff spots. Still plenty of season left which means no taking foot off gas and getting complacent.

Jets video:

TSN: ‘Solutions, not excuses’ mindset pushing Winnipeg past adversityThe Jets have faced a bunch of adversity this season including the absence of head coach Rick Bowness who was spending time with his wife, as well as injuries to some key players. Despite the hurdles, Winnipeg sits second in the central division, and have won five of their last six games. TSN’s John Lu has more on how the ‘solutions, not excuses’ mantra has pushed the Jets forward.

Jets audio:

Sportsnet: 32 Thoughts Podcast. Marek and Friedman talk about the Jets win over the Kings and then Elliotte spent some time discussing the backend for Winnipeg. That part of the audio has been transcribed in this post.
