Manitoba Moose drop the contest 5-1 as Admirals take first game of the season between these two rivals

Recap of the game

Seems odd given how many times the Moose and Admirals played each other last year (12 regular season and 5 playoffs) that this was the first meeting of the season between these two rivals. Only thing notable was Dominic Toninato, despite clearing waivers, wasn’t assigned to the Moose to play.

Lineup news:

Jets prospect Chaz Lucius returned to the lineup this evening for the Moose against the Admirals. Kyle Capobianco also drew back in after dealing with a hip issue. Both players missed out on last weekend’s games. Collin Delia gets the net.

Moose lineup:

Malott – Lambert – Ford
Bongiovanni – Zhilkin – Chibrikov
Suess – Lucius – Torgersson
Viel – Reichel – Jones

Capobianco – Stewart
Sautner – Lundmark
Kniazev – Bauer

Delia
Salminen

Notable:

Less than 15 seconds into the game we saw a tilt and it was foreshadowing of the many whistles we’d be hearing in the opening period of play.

The bad blood continued as Wyatt Bongiovanni was hit right in the numbers which had him leave the ice briefly before he returned.

Q: If three Moose are over there and it’s a 5 on 3 who is in front of the Manitoba net to defend? A: Nobody.

The opening frame was ridiculous for penalty calls as the Moose had to try to kill six penalties including two 5 on 3’s.

As bad as that period could have been for the Moose they are just down 1-0 after 20 minutes of play as Collin Delia made 19 saves on 20 shots and only gave up the one goal on a 5 on 3.

After giving up two more goals to fall to 3-0, Wyatt Bongiovanni kept his hot streak going as he and Kyle Capobianco combine for this shorthanded goal to put the Moose on the board. That’s the Michigan product’s seventh goal of the season. He’s got four goal and two assists in his last six games.

The middle frame was a better puck possession period for the Moose as they doubled the Admirals 14-7 in shots. However where it counts it was Milwaukee who doubled Manitoba as they scored twice to the one goal for the home side.

Goalie Collin Delia was a little slow to get up after he gets fallen on at the end of this play to start the 3rd.

Manitoba had a few chances to climb within one in the final frame but when those failed to materialize you could sense this coming as the Admirals made it a three goal game.

Not simply based on county of origin but I’m getting some real Mikhail Berdin vibes from this play by Admirals goalie Yaroslav Askarov.

This play sums up the game.

Manitoba fall to 10-11-0 on the season.
