Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest hockey news in Manitoba.

Note: The prospects kick off the on-ice portion of Development Camp today at the IcePlex (the full list of players attending and skate times here). It gets underway at 9:45 AM. If you can’t be down there fear not as I will have it covered.

Note II: Couple of chats with new/old Jets scheduled yesterday as both Alex Iafallo and Laurent Brossoit spoke via Zoom. You can watch Iaffalo’s here and Brossoit’s here.

Note III: It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise but former Jets goalie prospect Mikhail Berdin is staying in the KHL after he signed for two more seasons with HC Sochi.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: ‘Water under the bridge:’ Brossoit looking forward to having Jets fans back on his side. He handled the question like he handled the chants when his Vegas club came to Winnipeg…without issue. It would have been funnier had he said he was pissed off at fans and they owed him an apology but not surprisingly he said no apology was necessary and, in fact, he enjoyed the banter as it fired him up. His Stanley Cup ring probably also helps.

Winnipeg Sun: New winger Alex Iafallo brings calm veteran presence to Jets middle six. There seemed to be some suggestion from folks that Iafallo was going to need to be a “bit of work” with him but perhaps he just needed a few days in the Sierra Nevadas to hit an internal reset.

Winnipeg Free Press: Signing with Jets a no-brainer. (Paywall). Opportunity knocketh for the BC product either as a backup who will get more starts potentially if the organization decides to try to keep Hellebuyck to 55-60 starts or if they end up dealing 37, then potentially as the starter.

Winnipeg Free Press: Iafallo excited to be a Jet. (Paywall). He will bring depth and a winning attitude which are things the Jets hockey club require more of.

Global News: Alex Iafollo brings winning, positive attitude to Jets. Another welcome voice in the dressing room as the Jets try to change the culture in Winnipeg.

Global News: Laurent Brossoit betting on himself in return to Jets. Despite winning a Cup with Vegas it was clear that the netminder wanted to play a bigger role but that his injury against the Oilers in the second round cost him that chance.
