Note: The Jets didn’t have a very good day on Sunday as they lost for the third straight time as the Islanders left Winnipeg with a 4-0 victory in their back pocket. They have just one win in their last five games and yesterday they slipped from tied for 2nd in the Central down to the first wild card spot. In fact had the Kraken defeated the Leafs (they didn’t) Winnipeg would have slipped to the second wild card spot. As it is they sit just five points up on the Flames who are in 9th place. Of course they are also just three points back of 1st place Dallas so important to remember that. The Jets are scheduled to practice and may have newest Jet Nino Niederreiter along for the skate. Be sure to check back for the Practice Report.

Note II: The Moose were off on Sunday after they finished sweeping the Admirals on Saturday afternoon. They are off today although some players will be visiting one lucky Manitoba family for the backyard rink contest this afternoon.

Note III: The Ice were in Edmonton yesterday where they demolished the Oil Kings 8-1 which was their 10th win in-a-row. Conor Geekie (Coyotes) and Zach Benson (2023 draft eligible) each had a hat trick (Benson also had three assists and sits 2nd in WHL scoring). These two teams have a re-match tomorrow morning in the capital of Alberta.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: After third straight loss, Jets must find urgency level to get back in division race. The frustration is evident from this Jets team as they are mired in this malaise of losing right now. But as illustrated above they aren’t that far back so if they can get back to form they aren’t that far from flipping the script and changing the narrative about this team.

Winnipeg Sun: Staggering Jets welcome Nino Niederreiter with open arms. Just some of the ways that Rick Bowness described the newest addition included: “That’s going to be a big boost”, “He makes our top six better”, “He’s hard to play against. We need that right now.” and “He’s a big guy. When he’s going, he’s hard to handle.”.

Winnipeg Sun: Forget another trade, Jets need heart transplant. After being embarrassed by the defending Stanley Cup champs on Friday the expectation was Winnipeg would start the game on time. They didn’t.  They had one shot in the first 20 minutes of the game.

Winnipeg Free Press: Niederrmeiter can’t get here fast enough. (Paywall). One reason Jets fans will like Nino Niederreiter is he has a preference to shoot the puck. Given the inordinate amount of passing this team seems intent on doing that will be a nice change of pace.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets slip-sliding away. (Paywall). ‘Objects in the rear view mirror may appear closer than they are’. Well, now they are no longer just in the rear view mirror for Winnipeg.

NY Post: Islanders overwhelm Jets for convincing win before trade deadline. Be sure to check out the game recap from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Sportsnet: Do Jets need to push the panic button after loss to Islanders? Sean Reynolds and Ken Wiebe break down the Winnipeg Jets’ 4-0 loss to the New York Islanders, including whether Rick Bowness is taking a new approach to motivate his team and how worried the Jets should be about their place in the standings.

Sportsnet: Is Niederreiter the solution to the Jets’ forward dilemma? The Hockey Night in Canada panel discusses some of the latest stories in the NHL, including the Vancouver Canucks and Winnipeg Jets both making moves and the ongoing ‘trade-related reasons’ debate.

TSN: Is Niederreiter enough to fire up Winnipeg’s offenceJay Onrait was joined by TSN Director of Scouting Craig Button, who shared his thoughts on the Winnipeg Jets adding Nino Niederreiter to their roster.

TSN: What will Niederreiter bring to the JetsThe Jets made a splash before the deadline, sending a 2024 second round pick to the Nashville Predators and acquiring winger Nino Niederreiter. TSN Hockey analyst Frankie Corrado explains what the Jets are getting in Niederreiter, and what else the Jets could use before the deadline.
