Moose points streak hits nine games courtesy of comeback OT win over Admirals

Recap of the Moose game.

After their tilt on Thursday which saw Manitoba win a bit of a wild one as it began entirely one-sided for the home team (24-4 shot difference and a 3-0 lead) but ended up as a 3-2 win for the Moose. Both teams would want this win as Milwaukee would be looking to earn a split while Manitoba would want to narrow the Admirals hold on 2nd in the Central.

Lineup news:

Only changes were a swap of Jets prospects Simon Lundmark (in) and Tyrel Bauer (out) and Oskari Salminen getting the net from Arvid Holm. The team remains without leading scorer Alex Limoges.

Moose lineup:

Malott – Toninato – Harkins
Bongiovanni – Maier – Reichel
Polei – Meireles – Boland
Jones – Nikkanen – Torgersson

Chisholm – Gawanke
Heinola – Stewart
Sautner – Lundmark

One thing about the Moose. I don’t think they’ve ever had a miss with their specialty jerseys. Today’s Military Appreciation jersey pays homage to the 100th anniversary of HMCS CHIPPAWA.

After going down 1-0 the Moose got back into the game courtesy of their top line. Jansen Harkins feathered a pass over to Dominic Toninato to tie the game. It was his 12th goal of the season.

The home team took the lead in the middle frame as Evan Polei finished off a great pass by Greg Meireles.

Of course the air got sucked out of the game as the insiders broke a Jets trade during the 2nd period. Ironically it was between the parent clubs of the Moose and Admirals. We first learned that Winnipeg had acquired Nino Niederreiter from the Preds and then everyone was waiting to see if Manitoba might lose a player who was playing. Turned out there was no need for concern as it was a 2024 2nd round pick was going back to Nashville.

After the Admirals took the lead 3-2 in the 3rd period the Moose had a number of good chances to tie the game including this one by Jeff Malott and this one by Dominic Toninato.

The Winnipeg crowd got very excited for Cole Maier’s ripper to tie the game. They got even more excited that it won them all free pancakes.

The comeback is complete for the Moose as Declan Chisholm was the OT hero as he buried Jeff Malott’s rebound.

Manitoba improved to 29-16-3-3 on the season. They’ve got a nine game points streak 7-0-1-1. They remain in 3rd place in the Central just one point back of these same Admirals and two points back of the Stars in 1st place.
