Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets, Moose & Ice news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets hit the ice for a practice on Friday with some key players missing but according to head coach Rick Bowness they were simply held out for maintenance. What is interesting is the team announced no morning skate or media availability with the Jets bench boss (until 3:30 PM) so if there are any updates for the game against the Flyers they will have to wait until the mid afternoon. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6:00 PM CST.

Note II: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Philadelphia, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game. This season you’ll have a chance to win great schwag including authentic Jets jerseys, hats, etc after every single game and now a grand prize of a pair of tickets to an NHL game of your choice (For a variety of ways to enter click here).

Note III: The Moose and Marlies kicked off the final home series of the six-game stretch for Manitoba. It was a hard fought contest which saw the home team come up short by a goal as they lost 2-1. Leon Gawanke scored the only goal for the Moose. They are scheduled to practice today as they prepare for the re-match tomorrow.

Note IV: The Ice and Hurricanes did battle last night in Lethbridge which saw the visitors lose 2-1. No rest for Winnipeg however as they continue three games in three days tonight in a massive tilt against the Rebels in Red Deer with a battle of the top dogs in the Eastern Conference. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST.

Note V: Couple of prospects scored some goals on Friday night as 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius scored a pair of goals and added an assist for Portland in the WHL while 2022 1st rounder Rutger McGroarty scored a goal for Michigan in their win over Penn State.

Note VI: Join us this morning at 9 AM CST on the Illegal Curve Hockey Show for two hours of mostly Jets talk. We’ll be joined by Ken Wiebe of Sportsnet and Anthony SanFilippo of Crossing Broad.

Jets news:

The Hockey News: Pierre-Luc Dubois recalls trade to Winnipeg two years later. An excellent read from Jacob with the trade that rocked the ‘Peg a few year back being re-visited.

Sportsnet: Jets unfazed by difficult stretch but aware pace needs improvement. It is quite remarkable how few practices this team has held this season and while part of that is the team cancelling a number of the ones they’ve had scheduled it goes to show you how frenetic a pace this season has been already.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets aren’t sounding alarms after tough stretch. As we like to talk about on the IC Hockey Show the team has put a lot of points away in the standings bank which affords them these types of stretches.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets confident they’ll return to winning ways. (Paywall). It would be slightly disconcerting if they admitted that they weren’t confident that they could get back on track.

Jets video:

Winnipeg Sports Talk: Jets trade deadline wish list. Hustler was joined by Murat Ates of The Athletic Winnipeg to chat about what areas the local NHL club might be seeking to shore up.
