Note: The Jets were off on Monday but they made plenty of news as the team announced that they had assigned two of their prospects to junior hockey following the World Juniors. 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius will be heading to Portland to play for the Winterhawks while 2022 1st rounder Brad Lambert heads to Seattle to play for the Thunderbirds. While I am sure it is disappointing for the duo not to be returning to pro hockey I think it will be best for the long-term development of the pair of Jets prospects.
Note II: The team took off directly for Michigan on Monday so no practice following their 7-4 win over the Canucks on Sunday. We shall have to see if Saku Maenalanen is ready to return although given the team has won five straight it seems unlikely they make any more roster changes. With it being a gameday all eyes will be on morning skate which gets underway at 10:30 AM CST. All the relevant news will be posted in the pre-game report so check back for that. Puck drop is at 6:00 PM CST.
Note III: This evening, after the final buzzer sounds between Winnipeg and Detroit, we want you to be part of the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show as we discuss and analyze the results of the game. This season you’ll have a chance to win great schwag including authentic Jets jerseys, hats, etc after every single game and now a grand prize of a pair of tickets to an NHL game of your choice (For a variety of ways to enter click here).
Note IV: The Moose have another day of practice scheduled today in Toronto as they prepare to face the Marlies on Wednesday.
Note V: The Ice have won three straight including defeating the #2 team in the Western Conference (Portland). Tomorrow night they take on the top team in the entire CHL (Seattle, who may or may not have Brad Lambert in the lineup). Of course the Ice are the second ranked team which should make for quite the tilt. Puck drop is at 7:05 PM.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Nikolaj Ehlers’ addition to Pierre-Luc Dubois line could be a problem for opponents. Making the dynamic duo a lethal trio will give the Jets one of the most potent lines in the NHL. With craftiness, skill and strength all on that line it will make for a tough matchup to their opponents.
Winnipeg Free Press: Nothing phony about these Jets. Mike gives you ten reasons why these Jets are the real deal Holyfield.
The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets’ Nate Schmidt on life in Winnipeg, happiness and fan interactions: Q&A. (Paywall). You had questions and usually Murat is the one answering them but in this instance he took your questions to Jets defenceman Nate Schmidt and not surprisingly hilarity ensues.
Global News: Jets’ win streak a reminder team has what it takes to be great. It seemed like the sky was falling in Jetsland during that four losses in five games stretch and now that is but a distant memory. It isn’t as if the Jets have destroyed their opposition during this current win streak. The only game they actually started on time was the win against the Canucks on Sunday afternoon. But given the return of four key players and those four working the rust out of their game, this team is poised to continue to do some damage.
Jets video:
TSN: What’s fueling the Jets on their five-game win streak? Connor Hellebuyck and Josh Morrissey are earning a lot of credit for the Jets’ strong play that has them on a five-game winning streak, but NHL analyst Frankie Corrado explains why it’s the details in their game that has been the key to their success.
Sportsnet: Predicting how the already awesome Jets will handle the trade deadline. NHL insider Elliotte Friedman joins the Jeff Marek Show to discuss how he thinks Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff might approach the NHL Trade Deadline, and why he thinks he’ll reward the players for this season, but will likely target players with term.
