Note: The Jets (or what is left of them) didn’t have an optimal start to the post-Christmas portion of their schedule (or the game itself) getting scored on twice early in the game, being limited to one shot in the first ten minutes which just put them behind the 8 ball. That, along with the refs choosing to look the other way (even when they were looking at clear penalties) led to a 4-1 defeat which is rare for them against a Central Division opponent but not a surprise given the lineup limitations. Today they are scheduled to practice at 12 noon as they prepare to face the Canucks tomorrow night. We shall have to see if they make a recall (cough Jeff Malott cough) today. Be sure to check back for the Practice Report.

Note II:  Jets coach Rick Bowness provided the latest injury updates following morning skate on Tuesday which you can read here.

Note III: Today is the final day of break for the Moose. They are back in action on Friday and Saturday when they host the Canucks farm club from Abbotsford.

Note IV: The Ice sit 26-4-0-0 which is good enough for 1st in the WHL’s Eastern Conference. They head to Moose Jaw where they will kick off the post-Christmas portion of the schedule tonight against the Warriors. Puck drop is at 7 PM CST at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Injury-riddled Jets lose 3 straight for first time this year after falling to Wild. Despite having an excellent record against the Central the Jets just cannot handle the Wild losing to them by a combined 10-2 in their two losses which is crazy considering their record against the rest of the division is 11-1.

Winnipeg Free Press: Depleted Jets can’t contain Wild. (Paywall). It isn’t quite time to wave the white flag of surrender but these next two games are going to be very telling for Winnipeg.

The Athletic: Wild emerge from break and play ‘almost perfect’ in precision-like win over Jets. (Paywall). Read all about the game from the perspective of a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

Sportsnet: Still ravaged by injuries, Jets must improve execution as losing skid hits three games.

Sportsnet: How have the Winnipeg Jets found success again in 2022-23? Folks around the NHL are starting to pay more and more attention to the little team that could from the prairie province.

TSN: Biron dissects the two quick goals Hellebuyck gave up early to the Wild. TSN Hockey analyst Martin Biron gives his thoughts on the two quick goals Connor Hellebuyck gave up early in the game, and explains how the Jets’ special teams cost them in the loss to the Wild.
