Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets picked up their most impressive win of the season on Saturday afternoon. They gave up the first goal but then Eric Comrie, in a surprise start, shut the door on any more goals against, the “kids” on defence looked like they were playing with confidence and the team played a complete 60 minute effort to put two points in the standings bank courtesy of their 4-1 win. Winnipeg is off today and are expected to practice again on Monday in Philadelphia ahead of their final game of this short two-game road trip on Tuesday against the Flyers.

Note II: The Moose suffered a rare regulation home loss on Saturday as they gave up two goals, fought back to tie the game in the 2nd, only to give the lead up again which was followed by a game-tying goal from Jets 2019 2nd rounder Simon Lundmark in the 3rd. However former Jets draft pick Nic Petan (2013 2nd) set up the game-winning goal three minutes later and Manitoba lost their first ever game against Abbotsford. The Canucks and Moose will have a re-match this afternoon at 2 PM.

Note III: There are currently seven Jets players (that we know of) dealing with some sort of injury as well as one in covid protocol. For the latest on David Gustafsson, C.J. Suess, Nikolaj Ehlers, Logan Stanley, Dylan Samberg, Josh Morrissey and Nathan Beaulieu click here.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: Despite long layoff, Jets’ Comrie answers the call in win over Blues. It was funny cause when we tweeted out he was starting there were some folks lamenting this news claiming “the tank was on”. I suspect a few were eating crow after the performance of the backup netminder who gave up one goal against in the entire game on the man advantage. Now one game does not define a season but it should give both his club and the netminder plenty of confidence when they are going to need him next month.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets snap six-game losing skid with convincing win over Blues. Folks were wanting to see a complete 60 minute effort from this Jets club and that is what you got yesterday afternoon in a win against a St. Louis team that was sitting 16 points (although having played three more games) coming into the action.

Winnipeg Free Press: Comrie solid in impressive team effort against high-flying Blues. (Paywall). Jeff recaps the action from his spot inside Enterprise Center in St. Louis.

St. Louis Post-Dispatch: Blues go into All-Star break on a low note with 4-1 loss to Winnipeg. Always insightful to read a recap from a writer that covers the Jets opponent.

The Athletic Winnipeg: How Johnathan Kovacevic’s family story helps him put his hockey pursuit in perspective. (Paywall). Murat tells a fantastic story of the Kovacevic family and how it has helped to form the person the 2017 3rd rounder is today.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: Comrie credits fundamental game plan in first start since early December. Jets goalie Eric Comrie joined John Shorthouse after picking up a win in his first start since early December, discussing how he stayed focused on fundamental game plan to get himself back into playing rhythm after the long lay off.
