Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The Jets got off to a great start yesterday afternoon in Boston but they weren’t able to sustain their momentum and ultimately the Bruins came back to secure the regulation win. No rest for the Jets as they are in Pittsburgh today to conclude their four-game road trip against the Penguins. We will have any updates in the pre-game report. Puck drop is at 12 PM CST and following the final buzzer we want you to join the conversation on the Illegal Curve Post-Game Show.

Note II: The Moose pulled off another improbable victory on Saturday when you consider their undermanned roster against the top team in the AHL but the little team that could just continued to chug along despite missing seven of their top forwards as well as two top D prospects and both their regular netminders. They got off to a good start, saw a goal of the year candidate by Bobby Lynch although they did allow the Wolves to force OT with a late goal. Evan Polei picked up the GWG in extra time which improved Manitoba to 21-10-2-1 on the season. They go for the weekend sweep of the Wolves this afternoon in Winnipeg at 2 PM.

Note III: Quick little update from the world of NCAA as Jets 2018 3rd rounder Nathan Smith scored yesterday (see goal here) during Hockey Day in Minnesota which padded his lead as the top scorer in college hockey. Speaking of Minnesota the Jets 2021 1st rounder Chaz Lucius is heating up for the Golden Gophers contributing seven goals and five assists in his last 10 games.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun: Jets struggles continue as Bruins battle back for win. This four-game road trip was going to be a huge test for Winnipeg and so far they haven’t done enough to earn a passing grade. They are 0-2-1 and will have to hope they can salvage something today against a Penguins team that are 8-2-0 in last 10 and have won four straight.

Winnipeg Free Press: Power play the difference in loss to Bruins. (Paywall). It was slow and ineffective and wasn’t able to adjust to the aggressiveness on display by the penalty killers of Boston.

Boston Herald: Bruins ground Jets, 3-2. Always good to read about the game from the perspective of a scribe who covers the Jets opponent.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Sizing up Jets’ path to buying, selling or standing pat at the trade deadline. (Paywall). Feels about cuckoo for cocoa puffs that trade deadline talk is here given it feels like there is so much season left. Murat delves into the subject and the various paths the Jets could choose to take.

Jets video:

Sportsnet: How Rick Rypien’s legacy lives on a decade after his death. 10 years after Rick Rypien’s passing, Kevin Bieksa takes a look at how his legacy lives on through work done by the Canucks For Kids Charity and the Winnipeg Jets’ Project 11.
