Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note: The prospects were back on the ice on Sunday for pro mini camp. Watch media availability with Johnny Kovacevic, Arvid Holm and Moose coach Mark Morrison here.  Today is the last day for the pro mini camp with regular training camp getting underway on Thursday. Stay tuned for more.

Note II: Over in the KHL Jets prospect Dmitri Rashevsky (2021 5th rounder) picked up best rookie of the week honours for the first time in his career. He’s currently sitting in the eighth spot in KHL scoring (6GP 4G 5A).

Note III:  Some late afternoon news as CapFriendly reported that the Jets placed Sami Niku on unconditional waivers to terminate his contract.

Jets news:

NHL.com: Dubois seeks to regain old form, help Jets contend for Stanley Cup. The Jets will need him to take that second line centre spot starting this season and assuming it for the foreseeable future to give them a truly significant 1-2-3 punch up the middle.

Winnipeg Sun: Gustafsson eyes a move from Moose to Jets roster. As I said below for Kenny’s column there is no doubt that the Swedish prospect is ready to make the jump to the next level.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Mailbag: Will we ever know why Pierre-Luc Dubois left Columbus? How much stronger is the Jets’ defence with their new signings (Paywall). Murat’s readers had questions and he provides answers as well as some pro mini camp thoughts.

Winnipeg Free Press: Swedish goalie must play the waiting game. (Paywall). That is the beauty of training camp. He’ll have a shot to make his mark and perhaps improve his standing in the organization.

Winnipeg Free Press: Moose should have all kinds of skill. (Paywall). Considering some of these young guns will be playing for him this season it’s good they are making an impression.

Sportsnet: Jets prospect Gustafsson sees clear path to carving out regular NHL role. If it isn’t this year then I don’t know when the opportunity will be greater for the 2018 2nd rounder. As I’ve said numerous times he is capable of being positive for the Jets at 5 on 5 and could probably handle penalty killing responsibility given that he had that role with the Moose.

Winnipeg Sun: Prospects take things up a notch at Jets minicamp. As the mini camp winds down the guys know all eyes in the organization are on them as they try to make a good impression for those on the ice but also for the coaching staff and brain trust watching off the ice.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets goalie makes jump across pond after final season in Sweden. Scott wrote about the Jets 6th rounder from 2017 who is ready to compete within the organization for a spot. He also wrote about Leon Gawanke’s Olympic aspirations and new Moose bench boss Mark Morrison.
