Note:  The Jets needed to tender offers to their RFAs on Monday in order to hold onto their rights and in the end they did so with four of them. Check out those who did and didn’t get an offer from Winnipeg here.

Note II:  It was a busy Monday night in Winnipeg with news first breaking that the team had signed Paul Stastny to a one-year deal and that was followed by a trade with the Capitals for Brenden Dillon. Update: Stastny will speak today at 2 PM while Dillon will speak at 3 PM (we will have both covered).

Note III:  Normally we’d be switching focus to Jets prospect development camp but the team is holding that virtually and we are focused on free agency which starts on Wednesday. That will also be our final Illegal Curve Hockey Show of the season which you can watch here.

Jets news:

Sportsnet: Jets 2021 Free Agency Preview: Needs, targets, issues. Ken gives you the run down on the state of the franchise after their moves yesterday and the things they still need to get done before the season gets underway.

Sportsnet: NHL’s Top 15 RFAs of 2021: Latest rumours and reports. They’ve got Copp at number 12 although there isn’t anything earth shattering here.

Winnipeg Sun: Jets re-sign veteran Stastny to one-year, $3.75 million deal; acquire defenceman Dillon from Capitals. Pair of solid moves made by Winnipeg in order to help stabilize their group for the coming season.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets re-sign Stastny; trade for blue-liner Dillon. (Paywall). Mike reacts to the big news of the day on Monday.

Washington Post: Capitals trade defenseman Brenden Dillon to Jets for two second-round picks. Sounds like this move was a salary dump from Washington as they move money to ensure they can sign Alex Ovechkin.

The Athletic Winnipeg: Jets’ recent draft fortune spotlights how crucial timing is to building a Stanley Cup contender. (Paywall). Murat counsels patience in his most recent piece because while entry level contracts can help a team make things run smoothly under the cap these players take time to get to the point where they can help your NHL club.

Toronto Sun: What’s ahead for Canada’s NHL teams? Mike takes a look at all seven Canadian teams including the Jets. It is worth noting this article came out before the rash of moves made by Winnipeg last night.

Jets video:

TSN: Button feels ‘Jets are moving in the right direction’. After the Jets re-signed Paul Stastny to a one-year deal and picked up Brenden Dillon from the Capitals for two second rounders, Craig Button explains why he likes both moves and believes Winnipeg is headed in the right direction.

Ice news:

Winnipeg Sun: Winnipeg’s Lambos overcame plenty of adversity before getting drafted by Minnesota Wild in first round. There was some thought he would become the first Manitoba born player drafted by Winnipeg in the 1st round but instead he is trading in Friendly Manitoba for Minnesota Nice.
