Note: It is going to be a busy July coming up for Illegal Curve. Our regular Illegal Curve Hockey Show will continue on Saturdays including a show tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. In addition, we will have three extra shows including one with a focus on the Seattle Expansion Draft on Wednesday July 21st, the 1st round of the NHL Draft on Friday July 23rd as well as a Free Agency Round Up show on Wednesday July 28th.
The Athletic Winnipeg: How Winnipeg could use the expansion draft to find its next defenceman. (Paywall). Murat looks to see if the local NHL club can use the draft to their advantage to fill a much needed hole on defence.
TSN: Loaded with offensive talent, Jets faced with difficult decisions for the expansion draft. Move over Kevin Cheveldayoff, Director of Scouting Craig Button is taking the reins as general manager of the Jets to share who he would protect and leave exposed to Seattle in the expansion draft. With too many talented players to protect, Winnipeg is set to lose a solid contributor.
Denver Post: Avalanche trades expansion-draft target Ryan Graves to New Jersey for a Russian forward and draft pick. It will be interesting to watch over the next few days to see teams trying to pull off trades rather than lose a player for nothing.
Sportsnet: Stars’ Ben Bishop to waive no-move clause for expansion draft. Quite a few players have been willing to make this move in order to give their current clubs some latitude when it comes to their lists.
NBC Sports: Panthers buy out Keith Yandle, extend Forsling and Duclair. The other team from Florida was busy making news on Thursday.
