Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note:  Late on Friday afternoon the news came out that the Jets had signed backup goalie Laurent Brossoit to a one-year contract.

Note II: Join us for three hours of Jets and NHL hockey talk on today’s Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg which gets underway at 9 AM.  Plenty to discuss so we hope you’ll join us for that here.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets have plenty of options with 10th pickRound 1 of the 2020 NHL Draft is fast approaching.  Scott examines what the local NHL club might do with the tenth overall selection.

Sportsnet: Jets must heed lessons of past blockbusters when weighing Patrik Laine trade. As the saying goes “those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it”.

Winnipeg Free Press: Jets join the rest of the NHL for the annual teen talent shopping spree next week. (Paywall).  The Draft and Free Agency are probably my two favourite days of the hockey calendar as a new crop of prospects gets drafted and fans get a chance to see who will be wearing their team’s uniform.

Winnipeg Sun:  Get ready Jets fans, it’s going to be an eventful weekBuckle up Jets fans because there could be plenty of news on the horizon.

NHL.com:  Laine could be traded by Jets, GM says How hard would it be to write an appropriate headline that isn’t salacious?  Kevin Cheveldayoff’s quote is “we’re looking at all our options, including potentially trading different players” which realistically would include everyone on this team unless your name is Connor Hellebuyck or Mark Scheifele.  So perhaps they could have used the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase old wrestling saying “Everybody’s got a price” for this headline instead.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Jets can use cap space to their advantage.  TSN Hockey analyst Dave Poulin joined Rick Ralph and Darrin Bauming in studio. They discussed if we might see some player movement this weekend, the number of new GMs around the league, how the Jets can fill their centre and defense needs, the Jets prospects he’s excited about, what Patrik Laine’s next contract might look like, Tampa Bay’s salary cap situation, the surplus of goalies available and what the Ottawa Senators may do with their three first round picks.
