Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Note:  The Jets practiced on Monday at the IcePlex where we learned that Laurent Brossoit would be the starter tonight against the Red Wings.  Four players (Lowry, Poolman, Beaulieu & Pionk) were missing from practice but coach Maurice indicated he expects the four to be available for the game this evening.  With morning skate at 10:30 AM be sure to check back for the pre-game report.  Puck drop is at 7 pm.

Note II:  The Jets announced that they have reassigned Mason Appleton to the Manitoba Moose.

Note III:  While it seems unlikely, Michael Russo of The Athletic Minnesota wrote about the Wild being hosts of a 2021 Winter Classic and he had the Jets as the third likeliest team to be their opponent.

Note IV:  The Moose leave today for Texas as they will play five games away from the province starting tomorrow night against the Stars.  With the Jets lineup about to get some players back I am thinking the AHL squad may get a boost before they leave but we will have to wait and see what happens.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets not letting their guard down.  (Paywall).  It would be easy to dismiss these Red Wings and bank on four points from this home and home series but it would be a mistake to look past any opponent.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Ehlers’ fists of fury raise concern, earn respect on Jets bench.  (Paywall).  Pretty amusing to hear the coach talking about the team giving the Dynamic Dane a wide berth today at practice.

CTV News:  Five reasons behind Connor Hellebuyck’s success.  Pat’s list includes: 1) He’s got the right mindset. 2) A slight change to offseason work schedules. 3) Day-to-day upkeep and time management. 4) The team in front of him. 5) Loving what he does.

Winnipeg Sun:  Five Keys to the Game.  Scott’s big matchup is the Jets vs. Themselves. His five keys to the game include: 1) Detroit Stink City. 2) Brossoit back in. 3) Scheifele surging. 4) Killer instinct? 5) Back to normal at home?

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets looking to avoid trap game against Red Wings.  In the NHL is would be a mistake to ever overlook your competition.

Winnipeg Sun:  Ehlers-Getzlaf bout riled Jets’ bench with mixed emotions.  It really was a Rocky vs Drago type situation which could have ended very badly.

Sportsnet:  Jets finding ways to win despite rebuilt blue line.  Not many expected the Jets to have this level of success and while goalie Connor Hellebuyck continues to attribute the team success to those around him, his play this season has largely been responsible for the Jets being in the fight.

The Athletic Winnipeg:  How the Jets use the waiver wire as a low-cost option to patch a few holes.  (Paywall).  Ken looks at the waiver wire and how the Jets have been able to use it this season to augment their lineup.  

CBC:  Jets players visit children with physical, developmental challenges.  It is quite amazing what a visit from these players can do for the spirits of these young kids.

Moose news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  McKenzie back in the game with Moose.  (Paywall).  With three goals and four assists in his last eight games the Jets 2017 7th rounder is heating up.

Winnipeg Free Press: Moose making best of lengthy series of road games. (Paywall).  Being road warriors is important for the AHL squad considering they will have played 12 of 14 games away from Bell MTS Place between November 17th and December 18th.
