Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Your source for all the latest Jets and Moose news, video and audio.

Note:  It certainly wasn’t a sleepy Monday for Jets news yesterday as the day began with the team placing Mason Appleton on IR and recalling Logan Shaw from the Moose.  This was followed by a busy practice which included health updates which was followed shortly thereafter by the news that Adam Lowry had been suspended two games by NHL Player Safety.  How could today possibly top that?  The Jets don’t have a morning skate scheduled but will have a media availability at 6:30 pm.  Stay tuned for our pre-game report this morning.  Puck drop is at 9 pm CDT.

Note II:  The Moose were also making noise as Sami Niku rejoined his teammates at practice wearing a non-contact jersey although he expressed a belief that it would likely switch to a normal one by today.  Since it appeared to be Suomi day at Bell MTS Place on Monday Joona Luoto pulled a little prank starting his availability in Finnish.  Niku was back in a regular uniform.

Jets news:

The Athletic Winnipeg:  It’s back to business for a Jets team that has both impressed and disappointed. (Paywall).  Ultimately Dustin Byfuglien will continue to be the story for the Jets this season regardless of the decision he makes.

Winnipeg Sun:  Winnipeg looks to keep good times rolling in Anaheim Ted Wyman starts with his big matchup between either Ducks goalie vs Connor Hellebuyck.  His five things to watch: 1) Get scoring. 2) Road warriors. 3) Killing time. 4) Power up. 5) Filling holes.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets team defensive play has improved considerablyIt is interesting to hear the team speak about the early months of last season when they were scoring but not liking their collective team gameIt also helps that Hellebuyck has been rock solid between the pipes for the Jets.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets SnapshotsTed’s notes include: 1) Repeat offender Lowry suspended for dangerous hit. 2) Laine nicked up. 3) Team bonding. 4) Trio back together.

Winnipeg Free Press:  NHL’s west a mediocrity fest, so the panic in Jetsville is a tad premature.  (Paywall).  It’s funny because I was thinking this about the Jets division the other day.  Aside from the Avs nobody is really lighting it up so as long as you can maintain a similar pace nothing is really out of reach.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Lowry lighter in wallet, out two games for illegal check.  (Paywall).  The action on our Instagram account has been feverish as fans are divided in regards to whether Lowry should have been fined or suspended with the added option of no punishment, which quite a few folks opted for as well.

Jets audio:

Hockey Hall of Famer Teemu Selanne joined Andrew Paterson and Rick Ralph on the Afternoon Ride. They discussed his new book ‘My Life’, his arrival in Winnipeg as a rookie in 1992, getting traded to Anaheim and the toughest players he had to play against.
