Note: While today is normally one of anticipation for Jets fans I suspect most folks will be enjoying their Friday evening as Round 1 of the NHL Entry Draft gets underway in Dallas at 6:30 pm CT. For the first time Winnipeg will be without a 1st round selection (unless they make a trade of course). Be sure to stay tuned to be kept abreast of any moves made by the local club.
Note II: While the 1st round may not be super impactful for the Jets let this be a reminder that you can get a full four hours of Winnipeg Jets draft coverage via The Illegal Curve Hockey Show (as well as this website) on Saturday starting at 10 am CT on TSN 1290 Winnipeg. We provide you with complete coverage of Rounds 2 to 7 and will have the first interviews with the newest draft picks of the Winnipeg Jets. Be sure to tune in.
Note III: We got our first look at the complete 2018-19 schedule for the Jets on Thursday. Check it out.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Free Press: Jets GM taking hard look at assets. (Paywall). Plenty of decisions to be made over the course of the next little while.
Winnipeg Sun: Priorities clearly in focus for Jets: Retrieving a first-round pick seems unlikely. I don’t see the Jets making a big move to get a 1st rounder but you never know what might happen when you get 31 GMs in the same room.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets schedule looks manageable. One of the first things I noticed was that the team plays just ten back-to-backs this season which is massive considering last year they played nine while some teams played as many as 17 (Penguins). Ken looks deeper into the schedule.
Illegal Curve: A look at the Winnipeg Jets with the NHL/NHLPA setting the 2018-19 salary cap. There is gonna be some serious cap management coming up for this team.
Jets video:
TSN: How will the cap increase help Winnipeg? Frank Seravalli, Craig Button and Ryan Rishaug have more.
