Tobias Enstrom was a healthy scratch in the final game of the Division Final between the Jets and Golden Knights and as you would expect from any competitor he was less than pleased about not playing in what turned out to be the final game of the season for Winnipeg.  He wasn’t available for the end of season scrums with the Jets communications staff advising that he was “long gone”.  Following this Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reported in his 31 thoughts ten days into June that “Enstrom let Winnipeg know he won’t be returning.”.

Enstrom was drafted by the Atlanta Thrashers back in the 8th round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft (239th overall) and has played his entire 11 year NHL career with the Thrashers/Jets franchise.  He was limited to just 43 games this season due to injury.

Today at the NHL Entry Draft in Dallas Chris Johnston of Sportsnet indicated “Toby Enstrom is focused on remaining in the NHL next season. He’s feeling healthy after a long playoff run and will test the open market after 719 games with the Jets/Thrashers organization.”.

Further to that Pierre LeBrun of TSN added that Enstrom has new representation with Dan Milstein and Keith McKittrick of Gold Star Sports Management.

After helping the Jets get out of the NHL Expansion Draft pickle there was some talk that Enstrom would receive another contract with Winnipeg but that clearly doesn’t look like it will happen anymore.

He remains with the Winnipeg Jets until July 1st when free agency opens and he becomes an unrestricted free agent for the first time in his career.
