Note: The Jets took the day off on Sunday as they rest up for the final set of this back-to-back set against the Capitals tonight and Predators tomorrow night. The team will have a morning skate at 10:30 am central time and the Jets pre-game report will set you up as the team prepares for a 6 pm puck drop. Stay tuned throughout the day for any and all Jets news and updates via Twitter | Facebook | Instagram.
Note II: The Moose were involved in a wild game in Iowa as a quiet 1st period was followed by a five goal middle frame between the two squads including the Wild goalie being ejected. Ultimately a power play goal against the Moose early in the 3rd gave the Wild a 4-3 lead and they held on for the win. That concluded 17 straight games against the Central division for Manitoba. They travel to Texas today as they prepare for four games against the Rampage and Stars.
Jets news:
Winnipeg Sun: Five keys to Jets vs Capitals. Ken’s big matchup is, of course, Patrik Laine vs Alexander Ovechkin. His keys to the game include: 1) Where’s the secondary scoring? 2) No Little assignment. 3) Get to Grubauer. 4) Still dishing. 5) Kuznetsov cruising.
Winnipeg Sun: Laine and Ovechkin neck-and-neck in Rocket Richard race. The NHL has to be loving this as the preeminent sniper in the NHL is up against the next one. Toss in the fact that Ovechkin is Laine’s idol and you have yourself the makings of quite the little story. Who will be the first to 41? Perhaps we will find out later this evening when they go head to head in Washington.
Winnipeg Free Press: Injuries continue to keep Jets in sick bay. (Paywall). While not as dire as last season with more depth in the roster it is still quite the laundry list of players who are missing from this Jets squad. Of course with Jacob Trouba and Adam Lowry and possibly Mark Scheifele around the corner the team could be close to getting quite the boost from players currently on the IR.
Winnipeg Free Press: Laine playing on another level but rest of team having trouble finding net. (Paywall). In his last 11 games he has 15 goals and six assists. Some players don’t get 21 points in a season let alone in 11 games. The Jets sniper has certainly found his form and is shooting at a ridiculous 50% during this recent run.
NHL.com: Laine, Ovechkin chasing goal-scoring crown for Jets, Capitals. It is the story that everyone is talking about these days.
Washington Post: As Capitals vie for division crown, Barry Trotz’s status remains uncertain. We discussed the fate of the Dauphin, Manitoba born coach as he blows in the wind waiting for another contract on the show this past weekend.
