Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets have finally won three games in a row for the first time this season.  Let’s pause to allow that to sink in.  In addition to achieving that third straight victory the team also pulled off their ninth straight win over Central Division teams.  The team is scheduled to hit the ice this afternoon for a practice in Colorado ahead of tomorrow’s 2 pm afternoon contest against the Avalanche.  Update:  Plenty to hear from today’s skate.  Click here.

Note II:  The Moose will be loose at the MTS Centre for the first time since January 15th.  Tonight will be a special night as Manitoba will wear their Polar Bear uniforms in conjunction with the Assiniboine Park Zoo.  Puck drops at 7 pm so as always keep it locked as we will have all the action for you on site.

Jets news:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Timely saves are a big part of the game. (Audio).  Shane Hnidy joins Rick Ralph and discusses the Jets win in Dallas and Saturday’s game in Denver.

TSN:  Statistically Speaking: Scheifele an elite scorer.  Also mentioned in this article are Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine in the short shifts column.

ESPN:  Mark Scheifele tops ESPN under-24 rankings.   With the way he has been producing might we see him getting close to the 40 goal mark this season?  Not likely but he should easily eclipse last season’s high of 29 goals.

TSN:   A trade bait match for each Canadian team.  (Video).  Gary’s list for the Jets has a veteran goalie as the focus for Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets exorcise demon, finally win three straight.   For the tenth time they had two wins looking for that elusive third and last night we saw something that we hadn’t yet seen this season as they finally knocked off that third win.  Ken recaps the game from Dallas.

Winnipeg Sun:  Petan plugs away trying to be full-time threat.  He has a lot of talent and while some would like to see him a little higher up in the lineup he is still earning praise from his head coach.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets get first three-game win streak of season; beat Stars 4-3.  (Paywall).  Somehow the Jets have discovered some magic in a bottle when it comes to playing the Central Division and they will have to hope that they can keep the good times rolling with the upcoming games against the Central.  Mike broke down the game from his view in Dallas.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Everyone complains about refs, but what can you do?  (Paywall).  Former NHLer Scott Campbell tackles a topic that leaves many Jets fans chanting ‘ref you suck’.

TSN:  Mark Scheifele has two as Jets edge Stars.  He had a modified hat trick after having a goal called back and then scoring shortly thereafter.  55 had quite a game for the Jets as he adds to his points lead.

Dallas News:  Missed opportunities, crucial mistakes, and injuries — on display in loss to Jets.  While the Stars hold games in hand it is never a good thing when you have a four point swing in the standings.  Good to read the recap from the beat writer that covers the Jets opposition.

Illegal Curve:  Jacob Trouba will be Jets You Can Play club ambassador.  Nice to see the Jets young defenceman step up and take on this role of inclusiveness.

Game 54: Jets 4 Stars 3:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game Report.  A quick recap, some game stats and audio from Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele and Coach Maurice.

Moose news:

Global News:  From tryout contract to a leading goal scorer for the Moose: Dan DeSalvo’s journey.  A player many of us were impressed by last season and again, one that we were surprised hadn’t secured a contract this season.  But now that he has, he has settled in nicely here in Winnipeg.

Winnipeg Sun:  Moose young stars still working to rise up.  Lots of promise in the AHL but important to preach some caution as there is no need to rush these players.  Paul writes about Roslovic, Connor and Comrie.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Young Moose finding their game.  (Paywall).  Jason has more on Jack Roslovic and Kyle Connor as he spent some time at the IcePlex yesterday.
