Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets will hit the ice for practice today following their 2-0 win over the Flames last night.  They will now set their sights on the Montreal Canadiens who come to town for a game here on Wednesday night.  Update:  The Jets didn’t skate but we did speak to a number of players as well as coach Maurice.  To listen click here.

Note II:  The Moose are in Tucson to face the Roadrunners in the re-scheduled game from the contest that was postponed when Craig Cunningham had a medical emergency.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Thorburn keeps good attitude despite stretch in press box.  Missed this from Ted on how the veteran forward maintains a positive attitude.

Winnipeg Sun:  Hellebuyck shuts door on Flames.  He was very good in the win as he continues to earn his coach’s trust, winning his third game in his last four starts.  Ted breaks it all down in his recap.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets say hit on Laine just part of the game.  Hard to legislate that type of hit out of the game.  Paul goes in-depth on the hit, the players reaction and the team’s plan to get Laine back to full health.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets prove hotter than flames with decisive home win.  (Paywall).  It was a solid game by the home side.  Mike recaps the game.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Stafford relishes opportunity to contribute more offensively.  (Paywall).  If this team is planning on getting to that next level they will need him producing, regardless of what line he is playing with.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets won’t rush Laine back into lineup.  (Paywall).  No need to take a risk with a player who you have planned so much of your future on.

Calgary Herald:  Flames blanked by Hellebuyck and the Laine-less Jets.  Always find it informative to read about the game from a beat writer that covers the Jets opposition.

Sportsnet: Jets freak out as Lesnar breaks dressing room rule.  (Video).  One, I’m not a fan of this tradition but if it is so necessary why not put the logo on the ceiling (the Bruins did).  Secondly, who in their right mind is going to tell Brock Lesnar he can’t step foot anywhere?  Thirdly, not sure freak out is the right term.  Sounded more like razzing.

USA Today:  NHL All-Star Game 2017 roster projections.  While we will know the official rosters at noon Eastern today but Kevin Allen tries his hand at prognosticating the All-Star rosters.  I would suggest Nikolaj Ehlers as someone who should merit consideration for the game.

ESPN:  Impact of Patrik Laine’s concussion on Jets.  (Paywall).  Talks about Laine’s concussion, Jets approach to it, impact it could have on Ehlers as well as what it could do to Laine’s place in the Calder race.

ESPN:  Should players have to fight after delivering a clean but hard hitESPN held a roundtable discussion about this subject and my response if I had been included would be no.  I understand the emotion involved and how you want to come to a teammate’s defence but if the hit is clean why should you have to defend yourself?  I thought that with Byfuglien’s hit on Stone last year and thought the same with the McCabe hit on Laine.

Jets 2 Flames 0:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game recap.  Hear from Blake Wheeler, Mark Scheifele, Jacob Trouba, Connor Hellebuyck as well as coach Maurice.
