Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets and Manitoba Moose news.

Note:  The Jets hit the ice following two days away from the rink.  Practice begins at 11 am as Winnipeg gets ready to host the Florida Panthers tomorrow night at the MTS Centre.

Note II:  The Moose fell to the Checkers 4-2 in Charlotte last night.  Ondrej Pavelec made his second straight start, his third start in the last four games for Manitoba.  Chase De Leo is heating up for the Moose as he scored in the losing cause and has points in three of last four Manitoba games.  The Moose will have no time to feel sorry for themselves as they are back at it tonight at Bojangles’ Coliseum.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Sun:  Laine on own goal: ‘S— happens’.  No point in losing sleep on it at this point.  Have to just put it behind him (which he clearly has) and move forward.

Metro News:  Ho-ho-hockey and festive football: A holiday wishlist for Winnipeg sports teams.  In the Jets context Hustler gives his wish list for the Jets, Patrik Laine and Coach Maurice.

The Athletic:  The key context the Matthews-Laine debate is missingDoesn’t anyone else think that this “debate” would be best held in five or ten or fifteen years?

Sportsnet:  30 Thoughts The 12th thought asks the question as to whether Ondrej Pavelec  might return to the Jets.  Not to add fuel to this speculation but as you can see in my above Note II and worth noting the Moose did switch things up by starting Pavelec for a second consecutive game last night in Charlotte (first time they have done that this season).

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets look for Christmas roll.  We know the schedule talk will thankfully come to an end with the upcoming slow down as Winnipeg looks to get on track.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets forward Dano follows in his father’s pro hockey footsteps.  (Paywall).  He has become a nice complimentary player for Winnipeg.  Jason digs into his early beginnings.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  The Big Show.  Colour analyst Shane Hnidy dropped by the show to discuss the problems ailing the Winnipeg Jets including the team’s rough early schedule, the inconsistency of the youth and why the team’s continuing discipline issues fall on the players and not head coach Paul Maurice.

Moose news:

Our Sports Central:  Fleury nets two as Checkers trample Moose 4-2.  Recap of the game from the Charlotte perspective.
