Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Winnipeg Jets news.

Note:  The Jets won handily last night dispatching their central division rival Dallas Stars 8-2 on the strength of a Patrik Laine hat trick and Mark Scheifele’s five points (which now puts him atop NHL scoring).  Jets have cancelled practice but will meet with media at 12:30 before they depart for Arizona.  Stay tuned for a Jets (non) Practice Report.

Note II:  The Moose are traveling to California today as they get ready to start their five game road trip.  They will take on the Gulls in San Diego on Friday.

Note III: NHL This Week with Illegal Curve airs tonight from 6-8 pm CST on TSN 1290 Radio.  Guests will include Arizona Coyotes Color Analyst Tyson Nash and Ed Willes of the Vancouver Province.

Jets news:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  (Audio).  Gino Reda joins the guys to discuss Patrik Laine’s historic first 14 games and Jacob Trouba’s return to Winnipeg.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  (Audio).   TSN 1050 Hockey Analyst Patrick O’Sullivan joins Rick Ralph and discusses Jacob Trouba’s return to the Winnipeg Jets.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Donvito Roundtable.  (Audio).  TSN Hockey Analyst Shane Hnidy recaps the Jets win vs. Dallas and looks ahead to the road trip in Arizona and Colorado.

Sportsnet:  How does Laine’s hot start stack up to the greats?   I’d make a joke about Laine’s start being so hot that it is increasing the temperature in Winnipeg but since it is 17 degrees Celsius on November 9th the rookie may, in fact, be impacting the mercury.

TSN:  Statistically Speaking – Laine living largeNot just an article about the Jets high-flying rookie but he is the feature to open.  Also meriting comment is Jets top centre Mark Scheifele.

Yahoo Sports (Puck Daddy):  Patrik Laine is pulling an Ovechkin on Auston Matthews.  While there is still plenty of season left it is pretty clear that the Jets rookie will be in the running all season long.

Illegal Curve:  Patrik Laine chasing (and making) history.   In Jaws they were gonna need a bigger boat. Here in Winnipeg we are gonna need more hats. Laine continues to chase history.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets sink Stars on Laine’s hat trick.  As I tweeted yesterday, Patrik Laine has matched Teemu Selanne’s 1992-93 record for goals to start the season as the three he scored last night gave him 11 in 14 which is just what the Finnish Flash achieved in Winnipeg 24 years ago.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets players happy to have Trouba backKen offers up his thoughts from his morning spent inside the MTS Centre today when Jacob Trouba returned to the ice and joined his teammates for a morning skate.

Winnipeg Sun:  Trouba’s negotiating tactics fail miserably If you believe in something may as well stand up for it.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets outshine Stars in 8-2 victory.  (Paywall).  I’m not sure there are enough hats in the city of Winnipeg to keep up with Patrik Laine’s scoring pace.

Dallas News:  Stars play their worst game at most inopportune time.  Read about the game from a beat writer that covers Dallas.

TSN:  Cheveldayoff just as tough as in his playing days.  Gary writes about the consequences of dealing with the Jets GM when he doesn’t want to be backed into a corner.

TSN:  That’s Hockey 2 Nite.  (Video).  Patrik Laine continued to impress Tuesday night, lighting the lamp three more times against the Stars. The TH2N panel explains that his shot is a lot more than just a one-timer.

Winnipeg Free Press: Trouba gets warm welcome from teammates, Maurice.  (Paywall).  Not surprised by this in the least.  In fact I’d be shocked if we had heard anything but this from the players and Jets bench boss.

Sportsnet:  30 Thoughts.   All Trouba in the intro to the article.  Then 1 & 2 (Trouba) and 3 (Burmistrov) also touch on Winnipeg.

TSN:  Trouba is going to have to earn his minutes.  (Video).  Sara Orlesky and Gary Lawless discuss Jacob Trouba’s comments after Jets practice on Tuesday, how they see him fitting into the lineup and how they think his teammates are reacting to his return.

Sportsnet:  Trouba committed to Jets, GM Cheveldayoff ‘not looking to trade him’Had to somewhat expect a kumbaya moment in Winnipeg but will it last?  Really will be interesting to see how coach Maurice uses his young defenceman for the next few games.

Jets 8 Stars 2:

Illegal Curve:  Post-game report.  Post-game from the Jets and Stars dressing room as well as from coach Maurice and coach Ruff.
