Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets news.

Afternoon news:

Illegal Curve:  Jets issue qualifying offers to all RFAs except Austen Brassard.  The 2011 5th round pick was the only player not to get qualified and he will become a UFA as a result.

Winnipeg Sun:  Scheifele not sweating new deal.  No surprise that he isn’t saying much about the next contract he will sign with the Jets.

Sports and Moore:  What kind of teammate is Winnipeg Jets Patrik Laine?  (video).  Halifax native Stephen Dixon (Penguins 7th round pick in 2003) was one of the older members of Laine’s Tappara team and tells John Moore what kind of teammate Laine was this past season.

Jets audio:

TSN 1050 Toronto:  Mike Richards Show.  TSN’s Dave Poulin joins the show to discuss the NHL draft in Buffalo, Laine’s future with the Winnipeg Jets and who the Edmonton Oilers should look to trade.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Winnipeg will be one of the NHL’s most youthful teams next season.  (Paywall).  Will be interesting to see if the GM offsets this with a couple of veteran UFA additions for next season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  It’ll be 3 or 4 seasons before we know the true value of 2016 draft picks.  (Paywall).   While many seem to quickly apply the label of bust to a draft pick less than 24 hours after the NHL Entry Draft, it is probably best to reserve judgement for a year or two (or three) until we can see what they do (or don’t do) in the AHL/NHL.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Weapons of choice.  (Paywall).  Plenty of possibilities with the 2016 NHL Draft class as Tim outlines in this article.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Chevy’s next move is signing Perreault to an extension.  (Paywall).  He has been an excellent player for this team and it makes sense that the Jets would want to get his name on a contract as soon as they are able to get it done.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets, Leafs, Flames all huge winners.  Three scouts assessed the jobs done by the Canadian team scouting staffs and Winnipeg fans will like what they have to say about what the organization got done this past weekend in Buffalo.

Global News:  ‘He’s going to be a special player’ says Mark Scheifele about Patrik Laine.  Good chance we will be seeing 55 playing with 29 (I’m guessing) for years and years in a Winnipeg jersey.

USA Today:  Which teams made the biggest splash at the NHL draft?  The Jets made the list at the seven spot.  Agree or disagree?

ESPN:  2016 NHL draft grades.  (Paywall).  Corey Pronman dissects how each team did in Buffalo.

Illegal Curve:  Complete recap of the 2016 NHL Draft by the Jets.  The picks, their social media handles as well as links to all the media we did during the weekend.
