Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets and Moose news.

Note: Kick start your Saturday with the Illegal Curve Hockey Show on TSN 1290 Winnipeg.  Action packed show starting at 12 noon as we look back at the Jets/Bolts, ahead to the Jets/Panthers and take a look around the NHL. Guests: Mike Greenlay (Wild), Mike Heika (Stars), George Richards (Panthers) & Jim Toth (MB Moose).

Note II:  The Jets close out their road trip with a date with the Florida Panthers tonight in Sunrise.  Puck drops at 6 pm.

Note III:  The Moose continue to roll on the road as they won their third game in a row last night beating the IceHogs 3-2.  They won’t have any time to rest however as they went down the road to Milwaukee for a date tonight with the Admirals.  They have two more road games (22nd & 24th vs Iowa) before returning home for a quick two game series vs. Charlotte.

Jets news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  You were saying something about blame, coach?  (Paywall).  It must be something with the name Paul (see below) and I’m not talking about the coach.   This Paul narrows his focus to the Jets bench boss.

Winnipeg Free Press:  NHL needs a good shrink.  (Paywall).  Tim writes about the NHL wanting to shrink goalie pads to increase scoring.  He also spoke to Jets goalie Ondrej Pavelec to gauge his feelings.

Winnipeg Free Press:  The pen can be as mighty as the hockey stick.  (Paywall).  Scott writes about his continued transition from former player to writer.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets short on paper, passion.  Another Paul who isn’t one to hold back and he certainly didn’t with his latest column.

Winnipeg Sun:  NHL won’t meet with Stralman over hit.  Not surprisingly both sides see this completely differently.  However appears the ultimate decider of fact (the NHL) will not be delving into this any further.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets hope Bolts game was turning point.  Wouldn’t be first time a game against the Bolts proved pivotal.

Sportsnet:  Tim and Sid – Paul Maurice is a huge Kanye West fan. (Video).  It was hard to interpret what Jets head coach Paul Maurice was yelling at the refs vs Tampa Bay but they got an exclusive Tim and Sid audio feed of what the argument was.

Jets audio:

TSN 1290 Winnipeg:  Hustler and Lawless.  Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun joins the guys with ten days remaining until the trade deadline. LeBrun explains how enterprising GMs may be behind the PK Subban rumours, and talks about how, with Andrew Ladd’s recent performance, the Winnipeg Jets may be more willing to re-sign their captain.

TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Hustler and Lawless.  C’Mon Ref columnist Kerry Fraser joins Hustler & Lawless to discuss the series of events that led to Winnipeg Jets head coach Paul Maurice to being ejected from the game in Tampa Bay. Fraser dissects the Stralman hits on Ehlers and Little, and explains the sometimes contentious relationship between a referee and a coach.

Moose news:

Rockford Register Star:  Rockford IceHogs fall out of first place with sixth loss in seven games.  And don’t look now but the Moose seem to be putting it all together.

Illegal Curve:  Moose assign Jiri Fronk to Tulsa Oilers.  While he has some clear offensive skills it is clear that Moose coach Keith McCambridge feels that he needs to work on his play in the defensive zone.  He will get more minutes in Tulsa which should help him when he gets called back up to play for Manitoba.
