Guest: Ben Kuzma (Canucks beat writer for the Vancouver Province). To listen click here.
Note II: The Jets have the day off today.
Jets news:
Sports Illustrated: Mysterious decline in Jacob Trouba’s game at heart of Jets’ skid. Looking at some of the factors in the decline this season of the Jets prized d-man.
The Hockey News: Pavelec, Hutchinson need to step up for Jets to challenge in Central. A lot of that seems to be attributed to the play of the defence which has been anything but stellar this season. But as the Jets bench boss has said the entire team needs to play better than they have if they actually want a repeat of last season`s whiteout.
Winnipeg Free Press: Coach not cutting goalies any slack. (Paywall). It is as much a team game as it is about individual play and right now the entire team isn’t standing out in any particular positive fashion. It isn’t as if the goalies are standing on their heads but everyone else is playing poorly.
Winnipeg Free Press: Little knows moral victories mean little. (Paywall). It is a tough pill to swallow when you cling to moral victories having dropped five games in a row and being winless in six but that is just what bench boss Paul Maurice is doing as he tries to get the Jets back on track.
Winnipeg Sun: Losing streak hits six games. Coach Maurice is going to have to hope that with the day off today he can hit the refresh button now that the team is home for a week to play three games here at the MTS Centre.
CBC: What can the Jets do to turn this thing around? I keep looking around for one of those giant Staples panic buttons but I can’t seem to find one anywhere. Adam gives a few options that could possible work including: 1) bench a player or two 2) Call someone up from the farm 3) Let’s get serious and make a trade 4) Fire someone and 5) Just try to ride it out.
Globalnews: Jets finish road trip without a point. The question prior to the start of this trip through the Central was if this was season defining. Fans have to hope the answer is it wasn’t or it is going to be a long, long season.
St. Louis Post Dispatch: Backes scores two as Blues win 3-2. Read about the game from a St. Louis beat writer’s perspective.
Jets audio:
TSN 1290 Winnipeg: Hustler and Lawless First Take – Ladd’s leadership missing for Jets. Starts at 3:00 minute mark.
Blues 3 Jets 2:
Illegal Curve: Coach Maurice post-game scrum. Was the effort and bounce back you wanted to see? Responding in the 2nd. Giving up the first goal. Struggling power play. Trouba’s scrap vs. Brouwer. Thoughts on Pardy/Peluso coming in.
Moose news:
Globalnews: Injured Manitoba forwards Raffl, Fraser almost game ready. The team has managed to tread water the last few games but they could certainly use the injection of some veteran presence on this team.
Globalnews: Moose add Zajac brother. The team added some local talent with this move as he returns to North America after two months in Europe. He has played 108 AHL games with the Albany Devils and has 61 points (17 goals and 44 assists).
