Winnipeg Jets Morning Papers

Latest Jets and Moose news.

Note:  Following last night’s AHL Moose home opener (they lost 4-1) we now switch our focus to the NHL Jets who will open the 2015-16 season at the MTS Centre against the Calgary Flames with puck dropping at 7 pm.  We will be covering the game and as always stay tuned toillegalcurve.com and on social media including Twitter | Facebook | Instagram for pre and post game news.

Jets news:

Globe and Mail:  Jets fans revive ‘sly humour’ heckling as expectations accompany fervour.  As always Erik Duhatschek hits it out of the park with this article.  If you only read one article today this should be it.  But then again, since I’m saving you time by putting all these articles in one place, you really should read them all.

Winnipeg Sun:  Jets eager to see what they can do on home ice.  They have shown that they can get it done on the road but coach Maurice acknowledged that you need to be just as good at home as you are on the road if you expect to make it to the playoffs.

Winnipeg Sun:  Blue Jays stirring performance has some Jets players on edge of their seats.  Even if you aren’t a baseball fan that was one of the greatest sporting events I’ve ever watched.  Clearly a few of the Jets also felt similarly.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Sharpshooting Jets centre Scheifele off to sizzling start.  (Paywall).  He always had a good wrist shot but he seems to have taken it to the next level to kick off the 2015-16 season.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets home opener to be broadcast on outdoor screen in Exchange District.  (Paywall).  If you can’t be inside the MTS Centre join some of your fellow Jets fans watching the game outdoors.

Calgary Herald:  Frolik has book on the Jets as he returns to Winnipeg.  But has that book expired or has #67 spilled all the Jets secrets?

CBC:  5 Things to Watch.  Includes 1) Scheifele the sniper.  2) Ehlers is entering the building.  3) Penalty trouble. 4) Return of Michael Frolik and 5) Can Burmi get to the net?

Illegal Curve:  Ben Chiarot day to day.  There was some concern that the young defenceman had been benched but coach Maurice put those concerns to rest stating that he was day to day with a minor injury.

Jets audio:

Illegal Curve:  Coach Maurice scrum.  Anything to define about this team from the first four games?  Being able to hold the lead.  How much coaching can he do in 3 on 3?  Being prepared to just let the guys play during 3 on 3 without much coaching.  Any strategy for building a lineup that keeps team fresh for 3 on 3?  Any update on Ben Chiarot?  On the penalties the team has taken in first four games.  Have the games been called tighter at start of the season?  Imbalance of home/away games to start the season.   Importance of having a hot start.  Any thoughts on the Blue Jays win?  Importance of establishing who they are going to be at home?  Has one thing pleasantly surprised him over first four games?  What is at the top of his fix it list?

Moose news:

Winnipeg Free Press:  Not a monumental return.  (Paywall). While the play of the Moose on the ice wasn’t the prettiest, fans enjoyed the game nonetheless.  Jeff adds his insight on the contest.

Winnipeg Sun:  Moose lose home opener.  Patrick provides his insight into last night’s loss at the MTS Centre.

Illegal Curve:  Recapping the Moose home opener.  Peter breaks down the game including game details, some general observations, post-game audio (Coach McCambridge, Josh Morrissey and Jay Harrison), next Moose action and a look at the lines used in the game.

Illegal Curve:  Moose home opener pre-game ceremony.  Check out the intro video that the 8812 Moose fans watched as the players were introduced.
