Winnipeg Sun: Checkmarks all around. If Jets fans were expecting a let down after Monday’s 5-2 victory over the Bolts the Jets dissapointed in the most unexpected manner, playing another complete game and finishing with a 4-1 victory over Alex Ovechkin and the Capitals. Two important wins against Southeast division rivals.
Winnipeg Sun: Jets’ confidence growing. The Jets winning streak is now at two games and with Pat Sajak of Wheel of Fortune (no sign of Vanna White) in the house they are hoping to buy another ‘W’ to cap off the week against the Flyers on Saturday.
Winnipeg Free Press: Just call him ordinary Ovie. To his credit, I thought he was the only noticeable Caps player on the ice. Coach Noel clearly had a game plan for him that the Jets implemented, which limited his effectiveness.
Globe and Mail: Why Capitals’ big gun Alex Ovechkin is firing blanks. At times he looked very dangerous on the ice, but there is only so much one player can do by himself. The play of the GST line in shutting down the Caps star, and specifically Jim Slater, should not go unobserved.
Winnipeg Sun: Ovechkin unhappy with season so far. About the only highlight he provided last night was a hit in the 3rd period that was more accidental than deliberate.
The Hockey News: Jets honeymoon in Winnipeg is over. There haven’t been any opportunities for the ‘boo birds’ to fly with the Jets last two games against Division rival Lighting and Capitals. As Tanner Glass said the other day, Winnipeg fans are savvy and aren’t going to mindlessly cheer bad hockey.
IIHF: Top 10 NHL questions so far. Questions 9 & 10 deal with the Jets.
Illegal Curve: Jets on a Deadline. Game recaps, audio from Jets (Pavelec, Slater, Wheeler, Kane) & Caps (Laich, Eakin) locker rooms, video highlights and 3 Stars.
Jets next opponent news – Philadelphia Flyers:
Philly.com: Flyers-Jets shootout, part II? Since that crazy 9-8 game, following which Flyers goalie Ilya Bryzgalov claimed to have no confidence in himself, he has played like a monster 5-0-1 with a 1.66 goals-against average.
Courier Post: Bryzgalov quiets critics. He won’t be able to quiet the 15,004 park loving Winnipeggers on Saturday afternoon. Regardless of what happens you can expect the Bryz-galov chants to be occurring all game long.
Philadelphia Sports Daily: Jaromir Jagr out with lower-body injury. Good news for the Jets, bad news for fans wanting to see the ageless wonder who at 39 years of age is still playing at a very high level.
