It came as a pretty big surprise when the Jets announced that 2018 2nd rounder David Gustafsson would be sticking with the big club out of training camp. Many observers expected the 19-year-old to return to Sweden after an impressive showing in Winnipeg to continue his development back home but an injury in the final pre-season game to veteran centre Bryan Little meant the Jets needed help up the middle which came in the form of Gustafsson.
Gustafsson has played a total of 22 games for the Jets this season which included scoring his first NHL goal in San Jose. He has clearly left a positive impression on the coaching staff, his teammates and fans of the team.
Today the Jets announced they have loaned Gustafsson to the Swedish national junior team which means he will head to the Czech Republic for the World Junior Ice Hockey Championship which begins on December 26th.
