In the 2nd period of the Jets 4-3 win over the Leafs last night defenceman Nathan Beaulieu blocked a John Tavares shot which appeared to hit the veteran blueliner in the hand. It was clear he was in pain immediately, would eventually get off the ice and JetsPR announced he was done for the night with an upper-body injury. Following the game Jets coach Paul Maurice didn’t have an update on Beaulieu’s condition but felt confident he could provide a “clean update” on where he is at today.
Which brings us to the media availability for the Jets bench boss who spoke following today’s optional practice in Toronto as his team gets set for the re-match with the Leafs on Thursday night. Here is the update from Paul Maurice on Beaulieu:
Said he will be out weeks. The team will place him on IR.
When he was asked a follow-up question about it for specificity on a timeline he said it won’t be 1-2 weeks but also doesn’t expect it to be 4-6 weeks. He seemed to suggest that the mid point but also added it has to do with healing.
Which means that Sami Niku or Logan Stanley will be getting a shot to return to the lineup tomorrow night. Paul Maurice wouldn’t say who it would be but did mention that the player would get some penalty kill time.
