Winnipeg Jets Injury Report: Evgeny Svechnikov and David Gustafsson updates

Latest on the pair of forwards injured in last night’s game.

The Jets are already without captain Blake Wheeler for “awhile” although there was supposed to be some clarity on him when the swelling went down after 3-4 days which would be today as the fourth day out from the last update on Tuesday.

Last night in the loss to the Capitals the team lost David Gustafsson to a lower-body injury after he took one full shift in the 2nd period and then his last one only lasted six seconds before he was done for the night. It was believed to have occurred in the 1st period when he seemed to have caught an edge and went fairly hard into the Washington net.

In the 3rd period Evgeny Svechnikov appeared to have tweaked something as he went back to the bench appearing to be in some discomfort. He would stay and take another shift but his night ended early with under 10 minutes to go in the final frame.

After the game interim head coach Dave Lowry didn’t have an update but today after practice he indicated during his media availability that:

“Gus will be, probably be day-to-day as of right now and Svech will probably be a little bit longer”.

The interesting wrinkle is that the Moose had to cut their five-game road trip short after playing in Iowa last night due to COVID. While I confirmed today the team is back in Winnipeg we shall see how that potentially impacts a recall.
