Winnipeg Jets Health Update: David Gustafsson is not set to return to lineup anytime soon

Bad news for the Jets 2018 2nd rounder.

After a solid start to his season with the Manitoba Moose in the AHL, 2018 2nd rounder for the Jets David Gustafsson finally got the call up to Winnipeg in mid December when the big club needed a forward.

His first game came on December 17th against the Capitals in Winnipeg but he played just 2:37 and didn’t return after the 1st period suffering a lower-body injury. He would get back to health and into a game when the Jets returned to action in Vegas on January 2nd but again he would play limited minutes (2:19) and not return after the 1st period.

The team placed him on injured reserve on January 6th.

Today following morning skate and with the Jets dealing with a dizzying array of player movement interim head coach Dave Lowry was asked about Gustafsson’s status. He indicated that “my understanding is he is still aways away from playing” and followed that up with “not coming back anytime soon.”

Tough news for the centre prospect who has put together two solid campaigns in the minors and appeared poised to make his mark at the NHL level.
