post-game recap

Winnipeg Jets head into the 4 Nations break with eight-game win streak defeating the NY Islanders 4-3

Recap of the game.

For the second time this season the Jets have themselves an eight-game win streak as they defeat the Islanders 4-3 to become the first NHL team to get up and over the 80 point mark. They cruise into the 4 Nations break as the top team in the entire NHL. Not too shabby.

Winnipeg improve to 39-14-3 on the season. They are also the first team to score 200 goals this season (202 to be exact).

Notable:

After an unfortunate bounce led to the first Islanders goal to open the scoring, a hell of a nice goal by Alex Iafallo tied up the game courtesy of his 8th of the season. Samberg and Lambert get the assists. That was Brad’s first point of the season.

Kyle Connor’s speed (and his pass) is something else on this play which sets up the Gabriel Vilardi goal to tie the game 2-2. That tied his career high for goals with 23 and it’s the first time he hits 50 points.

Wow. Cole Perfetti. What a pass. Nikolaj Ehlers buried it and it was 3-2 for the Jets. Five straight games with an assist for Perfetti. He’s got 4G 5A in his last seven games.

Nikolaj Ehlers set up Vlad Namestnikov with a chance for what would have been a carbon copy goal.

Also when the Jets were only up by a goal David Gustafsson made a heck of a defensive play in the Winnipeg end to kill an Islanders grade A chance.

New career high in goals for Gabriel Vilardi as he gets his 24th goal of the season. Jets lead 4-2 late in the 2nd.

With New York pouring it on in the 3rd frame Connor Hellebuyck made a ‘remember that save’ stop with Winnipeg only up 4-3.

Multipoint Game:

Gabriel Vilardi 2G
Mark Scheifele 2A
Kyle Connor 2A
