Winnipeg Free Press:  1290 becomes TSN Radio.  Effective Wednesday, the brand switches over to TSN.  IC show merits a mention.

Winnipeg Free Press:  Jets ready to fly.  Cool story on how the fan recognized Ladd and bought him a coffee.  Really exemplifies ‘Friendly Manitoba’.

Globe and Mail:  Jets sign Mark Scheifele  to entry-level dealIf you are Mark Scheifele and you just heard the Jets GM state that you would be in the opening lineup, you have to be slightly pumped up.

He’ll be in the lineup opening night. There’s no guarantee of anything [beyond that].

TSN:  Jets sign first-round pick.  He will earn $925,000, plus $700,000 in average bonuses, with a cap hit of $1.625 million per season.

Yahoo Sports:  How the first two months of the season can royally screw your NHL season.  I like the idea of the Jets being spoilers.

The New York Islanders and the Winnipeg Jets. If they can get out to an above .500 start and remain there through the first two months, they could be spoilers. The Thrashers were notoriously fast starters; the Jets become an interesting case because early momentum could carry through the season thanks to the unparallelled enthusiasm from the fan base.

Arctic Ice:  Mark Scheifele, or why an 18 -year old kid should be in junior.  Our friends over at Arctic Ice Hockey also think it would be wise to let Scheifele develop further in junior.  IC’s Richard Pollock wrote about this when he said fans need to ‘Scheifele their expectations‘.

Jets Nation:  SWOTing the Jets defence.  An analysis of the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats of the Jets.

Jets Prospects News:

Hockey Futures:  2011-12 OHL Eastern Conference preview.  Might not want to count on Scheifele just yet but looks like former Jets 1.0 great Dale Hawerchuk is going to have quite the team in Barrie this season, including another Jets prospect Ivan Telegin.
