ESPN sportscaster John Buccigross knows college hockey and has his finger on the pulse of what is happening in the NCAA. Today he tweeted this about Winnipeg Jets assistant coach Todd Woodcroft:
I’m hearing the Head Coach position at Vermont (@UVMmhockey) has been offered to Todd Woodcroft. In his fourth season with the Winnipeg Jets in his role as Assistant Coach.
He added this tweet:
Todd Woodcroft is regarded as a sharp hockey mind. Strong presence in the room. Confident/driven. Very well connected through N. America and Europe. He is said to be on a mission to turn a great hockey school like UVM around. This has Caught college hockey coaches by surprise.
Woodcroft has excelled in his role as a teacher and can quite often be seen on webinars helping out coaches at all levels. And that’s probably a good thing given the Catamounts were 2-18-4 this season.
Prior to joining the Jets organization Woodcroft spent the previous three years with the Flames as their Scouting Director/Pro Scout as well as having spent time with the Wild and Capital organizations. This would be his first time in the position as a head coach.
Stay tuned.
Update:
Later in the evening the Catamounts confirmed that Woodcroft had accepted the head coaching offer.
