Winnipeg Jets sign prospect Kieron Walton (2024 6th) to a three-year ELC

After an incredible season in the OHL he has his first NHL contract.

When the Jets drafted big (6’6) Kieron Walton in the 6th round of the 2024 NHL Draft we didn’t know what to expect from the Ontario kid who plays for the Sudbury Wolves of the OHL. All we really knew is what the folks at Elite Prospect wrote about him:

“Vision and puck skills drive Walton’s game. He’s a skilled passer, capable of slipping pucks underneath defender’s sticks to open teammates driving the net. Whether he’s deking through defenders or knocking down tricky passes, he uses his full reach to handle the puck and make the next play.”

One thing he spoke about at Jets Development Camp this summer was being more consistent. Well he’s been that and more this season in the OHL. There haven’t been many nights when his Sudbury club is in action that he hasn’t found the scoresheet.

This is what we wrote about him in our prospect regular season roundup:

No prospect has caught folks attention quite like the Toronto product has this season. He had 43 points in 65 games for Sudbury last season and this year he demolished those totals. He had 38G 54A for 92 points in 66 games. He saw his points per game jump from 0.66 to 1.39. He finished with the most points of any Jets prospect in the league ending up 9th overall in the OHL. He was also 3rd overall in shots taken.

His OHL playoffs concluded on Friday night when his Sudbury Wolves were swept in four games. He would finish with one goal and four assists.

And all this has culminated in the Jets signing him to his first ever NHL contract according to the folks at PuckPedia which is a three-year ELC. He will likely be assigned to join the Moose for the remainder of their regular season.

Update:

The Jets have now confirmed the deal.
