Word from the beat writers:

  • Looks like Nik Antropov is back at practice after missing three straight for the Thrashers and that’s good news for the team.
  • Expect Tim Thomas to be between the pipes tonight for the Bruins as Fluto Shinzawa of the Boston Globe is reporting that he was first off the ice during the morning skate today.
  • In one of the least surprising moves of this young season, the Buffalo Sabres made it official that rookie Tyler Myers will stay with the NHL club past his nine-game tryout limit.

  • Brent Sutter is not happy with the performance of his club after last night’s 3-2 loss to the league leading Colorado Avalanche, especially with the game winning goal scored by Wojtek Wolski.
  • Adrian Dater of the Denver Post thinks that the Avalanche are going to start Peter Budaj against the Sharks, giving Craig Anderson a rare night off.
  • Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood isn’t panicking about his lackluster play so far this season (wish I could say the same for Wings nation) and he feels that absent a few minutes here and there, he’s played some pretty good hockey this season.
  • David Staples of the Edmonton Journal wonders what is the remedy for all that ails Denis Grebeshkov of the Oilers?
    Grebeshkov
  • The surprising L.A. Kings have claimed 28 year old defenceman Randy Jones from the Philadelphia Flyers.
  • John Glennon of the Tennessean provides a couple of notes on the Predators win over the Wild and talks about the Preds support for the NHL’s Hockey Fights Cancer initiative, a cause that means quite a bit to Preds forward J.P. Dumont.
  • The New Jersey Devils continue to struggle at home, off to a 1-4 start, and while some Devils said they were worried, others like Zach Parise don’t think its a  problem.
  • The injury bug continues to strike early this season and today the Penguins have shelved star Evgeni Malkin for a few weeks with a strained right shoulder.

  • Lightning coach Rick Tocchet is doing whatever he can to get Alex Tanguay going and that might mean putting him on a line with Stamkos and Malone.
  • Damien Cox of the Toronto Star discusses the Leafs situation after the first 10 games this season including a look at the young players, the Monster and whose played well so far.
  • Tomas Fleischmann will make his season debut tonight in Atlanta, where the Caps will be looking to make it six in a row and goalie Semyon Varlamov will get the start.
