Nightly Wrap-Around

  • The Habs are hoping the signing of Georges Laraque will keep Mike Komisarek out of the penalty box. Komisarek needs to pick his spots a little more ala Iginla in Calgary.
  • Mark Spector on the effect Daryl Katz has had as Oilers owner. Katz taking over the Oilers ownership was a good thing for Oilers fans as he seems to have a plan and knows what he is doing.
  • Darren Eliot interviews Ilya Kovalchuk for SI. Kovalchuk would be a media darling if he played in Toronto, New York or Chicago.
  • Some free agents on tryout agreements from Lyle “Spector” Richardson. Many of these players will sign with these teams prior to the season.
  • Alex Tanguay is looking forward to a new beginning with Les Habitants. Tanguay just wasn’t fitting in in Calgary so I expect a better season for him in Montreal this season.
  • If the Flames are going to be better than last year, they will need some more secondary scoring, writes Eric Duhatschek of the Globe & Mail. The Flames made a lot of changes this off-season, whether the results are any different, well, we will see won’t we?
  • Could Mathieu Schneider be a good fit for the Blues?  If the Blues want to take on that salary, I don’t see this as a bad fit.
  • Apparently the Wild has offered Marian Gaborik a seven-year deal. The Wild is trying its best to get Gaborik under contract, so if Gabby doesn’t re-sign, it sure won’t be because of a lack of effort from Wild management.
  • Travis Zajac is looking for a bounce-back year in New Jersey. Zajac is big and talented and should rebound from his sophomore slump.
