Afternoon Delight

Afternoon Delight

  • Daymond Langkow took the morning skate off, so don’t think the Flames have broken up the Bertuzzi-Langkow-Iginla line just yet. It is training camp, lines will be changing by the hour not the day.
  • The best beat writer in the business, Michael Russo, with a recap of the last day of Wild training camp in Grand Forks. I was at camp today and unfortunately didn’t run into Russo.  I will pass along further information about what I saw later in the afternoon.
  • Steve Mason will be out of action for 4-6 weeks after undergoing knee surgery today. Tough break for Mason who was hoping to make a good impression at camp.
  • The Habs will be the most televised Canadian team on Hockey Night in Canada this season. As well they should be.
  • Even with all the trade rumors surrounding his name, Jussi Jokinen has been the best Lightning player through the first two games of the pre-season. The Bolts have so much forward depth that he is going to have standout to get himself some significant ice time.
  • Hockey historian Joe Pelletier with his top ten hockey blogs on the web.  We at Illegal Curve are flaterred to be on a list consisting of so many great blogs.
  • Kansas City looking to bring the NHL to town? If the NHL goes to Kansas City next I will be speechless.
  • Is Mathieu Schneider heading to Atlanta? I can see the Thrashers having a serious interest in Schneider but would Schneider welcome such a move to a team expected to be in the bottom five of the NHL at season’s end?  I know he doesn’t have a no-trade clause but that doesn’t mean he couldn’t voice his displeasure prior to an official agreement.
  • Dave Shoalts of the Globe & Mail wonders if Jay Bouwmeester is close to done in Florida? Unless this season is a big success it is hard to disagree with Shoalts on this one.
  • Erik Cole is fitting in nicely in Edmonton. No real surprise, he fits the Oilers profile perfectly.
