More rest for Brodeur this season?

From Rich Chere of the Newark Star-Ledger:

It’s the question everyone asks. A succession of Devils coaches have heard it from reporters each season: Will this be the year goalie Martin Brodeur plays less to give him more rest?

I just spoke with coach Brent Sutter and he was honest. He doesn’t know what will happen.

“We’ll see,” Sutter said from home in Alberta. “We have to get through camp and the exhibitions. But I’m kind of a game-to-game guy.

“Who knows what would’ve happened last year if our start had been better?”

Chere has it exactly right.  Every year we hear that the Devils coach wants give Marty Brodeur more rest and then every year he plays a ton of games.  If you are coach Sutter, it is tough to sit Brodeur when he is their key to winning on a nightly basis.  However, if the Devils want to make a prolonged run in the playoffs, Brodeur is going to need some rest this season.

One thing we do on the IC Hockey Show, in addition to hours of Jets talk, is have a whole lot of fun.

Also speaking from Chicago was Jets head coach Rick Bowness.
