Moose comeback to defeat Wolves in a shootout to earn a series split

Recap of the Moose game.

The Moose were coming into this game looking to earn a split after losing yesterday afternoon to the Wolves. Despite being an excellent team at home this season the nine-game homestand hasn’t gone too well as they were 1-3-0-0 in the first four games.

Lineup changes:

Mikhail Berdin didn’t dress for the game.

Moose lineup:

Malott – Gustafsson – Eyssimont
Polei – Maier – Jones
Lynch – Meireles – Egle
Alfaro – Hutchinson – Burgess

Heinola – Kovacevic
Chisholm – Gawanke
Oligny – Lundmark

Holm
Desrosiers

Noteworthy:

The Moose fought back from 1-0 and 3-1 deficits here in Winnipeg to tie the Wolves 3-3 after 40 minutes. Manitoba goals coming from Meireles, Lynch and Polei. Arvid Holm came in in relief and made 12/12 saves after 40 minutes of play.

Fans in Winnipeg are not happy as Holm is knocked out his net and the Wolves score in OT. Manitoba not happy and they weren’t leaving the ice….with good reason.. So we waited and the refs decided it was interference and it was overturned. See the play here.

He has become rather automatic in the shootout and David Gustafsson looked very good with this attempt (watch it here).

Arvid Holm makes a stop that could be described as anything but conventional but all that matters to him and his Moose teammates is it stayed out of the net during the shootout. (watch it here).

Jeff Malott walked it off (literally) and won it for the Moose in the shootout as they earn the split with the Wolves. His celebration was unique to put it mildly. See it here.

Manitoba improves to 27-17-2-1 on the season.

Health news:

Head coach Mark Morrison was asked about the health of Mikhail Berdin and he said “We’re just managing Birdy. We want to make sure we don’t throw him on the ice too much. But he’s fine.” The follow-up question was whether it was health related and he said “No. Just management.”
